Looking at a new suppressor. I currently have a GA Armament Optimus. I like the fact that it is user serviceable. Obviously looking for lightest, highest dB reduction, shortest length. Thanks.

I just got a Q Half Nelson. Happy with it. My SAS Arbiter is quieter but should be since it’s much more volume.

Volume of the can I believe has the biggest effect on sound over baffle design and caliber size of caps & baffles. My SiCo Hybrid is a .46cal while my SiCo Omega 30 is a .30cal. One would think the smaller opening would suppress a 243win better, but the larger Hybrid is considerably quieter.

All that said to say this, you may not be able to get all 3 (lightest, most device reduction, shortest) in 1 can, there may have to be trade offs. Find which one of those you can give up a little

No experience with it but been reading really good things on the scythe ti as well and that will be my next one I buy. I just got my first one a few months ago, a banish 30. It's nice, but wish I had researched a little more and I would have got the scythe ti.

Scythe if weight is important and you are setting up a lightweight rifle for carrying or omega if on budget and don’t mind the extra weight and mostly sitting in a deer stand.

If you know BP and I's relationship, it kills me to say this...he's 100% correct. There is always a trade off...most of us know that a fat 8-9" can is the quietest out there...but it won't be short, handy or light. I am continually looking for the next best for me can...which is light and quiet.

Right now...my opinion, pretty tough to beat the Scythe and the Enticer sti. Mainly due to the weight part. The Enticer is more budget friendly than the Scythe, but this is a lifetime item so buy what you want and don't let a couple hundred dollars stop you.

This past weekend a buddy and I shot 5 different cans on a 22 Creedmoor...I stood back and I couldn't really measure with my ears which one was quieter than the other...I am sure there was differences but they weren't material enough that you were like WOW, that is THE one.

Dead Air Nomad
AB Raptor 8
Scythe
Enticer STI
Q Half Nelson

Shooting them I would've guessed the AB and Q would've been the two quietest...It's just not so sitting back and to the side 10-15y without ear protection. I was surprised.

Good luck in your search.

Most quality cans in that range are going to be within 10db, and maybe even 5db, of each other. If someone tells you they can tell the difference between 122 and 128 db, or 130 and 138, when the sound is a fraction of a second long, they either have super hearing or they're full of bullhockey.

word

I really don't think any of them suk. Ther SYTHE might be hard to find but there are other lightweight TI cans out there. Only an ultralight rifle really needs a lightweight suppressor.

I have......

Dead Air `Mask 22
Thunderbeast 22 Takedown
AB Raptor,
Dead Air Nomad 30
SilencerCo Hybrid 46 Black

Don't know if they are the quietest, but the difference between attached and unsuppressed is amazing. I find myself not wanting to shoot unsuppressed and switch between rifles.

ya!

I have a Q Trash Panda. I really like it.

The Nosler SR-30K interests me as a direct thread hunting suppressor mainly due to the size and weight @ 5.8” and 7.2 ounces. The price is cheap as well but that is the least of my concerns with a suppressor.

dB rating is logarithmic, an increase of 3dB is double the sound pressure on your ears, an increase of 6 dB is four times as much sound pressure, and in increase of 10 dB is ten times the sound pressure.

Most people need a difference of 3 dB to be able to detect a difference. 5dB or 8dB is very easy to tell a difference between on suppressors.

I was looking at the SilencerCo Sythe Ti but it says their sealed suppressors are not recommended for lead ammunition. Same with the Omega 30.

Can lead hunting ammo not be used with these?

I believe they are referring to non-jacketed lead ammo. I have never heard of not being able to use a hunting round in an Omega 30.

Projectiles such as Hard cast even with a Gas check secured to the base will still allow for exposed lead to be atomized by the intense heat generated by the propellant burning and that atomized lead can accumulate on baffle and canister surfaces, leading to buildup over the life of the suppressor which can lead to reduced clearances through the baffle stack. Theoretically leading to interference which could cause damage to suppressor.
User serviceable suppressors and rimfire specific suppressors can be disassembled and cleaned to remove buildup and fouling allowing for longer service life.
Jacketed projectiles even those with exposed base lead and soft point projectiles have considerably less surface area thus reducing the atomization quantity to an acceptable range for manufacturers to warrant safe use.

So basically you're saying the Sythe and Omega are safe for use with traditional copper-jacketed lead ammo (i.e. Corelokts)?
