I’ve got a 15.5 pelican canoe, I want to hunt out of it with me and my dog. I want to put like a 55lb trolling motor on it. Do I need to register it? I was hoping I wouldn’t have to, but I’m reading something that makes it seem like I have to.
Thank you for the help.

Yes it is my understanding Anything motorized has to be registered in Texas.

Even with just a trolling motor it will need TX numbers on it. And running lights in the dark same as any other motorized boat. I have been using my 17 ft canoe with a motor all week.

Tried to register mine back in the day. Pelican Manufacturer Statement of Origin was rejected by TP&W for some screwy reason. Couldn't ever figure it out other than it was printed on plain paper. Wouldn't take my money. Weird. Ran outlaw for a bit and decided I had enough running trolling motor in the dark to duck hunting spot.

Only if you plan to hunt on public waters or public game reserve run by feds or state! IF your on
private ranch or lands, motor away! TPWD want that tax money from your wallet! never fails!

Years ago i purchased an old jon boat from a fellow, and it took forever to finally get it in my name,
150$ later and boat is mine now! big hassle. New craft should have point of origin showing where
it came from!
TPWD treat everyone as if you are crooks, and you have to prove them wrong, sorry way i feel.....
because of actions of others we all pay the price today!

'TPWD treat everyone as if you are crooks' because of all those that steal small craft!! But I agree, used to be just a once reg. and fee. Doesn't TX require numbers on ANY craft on state/Fed waterway? Mo. did.

This seems retarded. Even in Canuckistan we don't require canoe registration. Any watercraft up here is exempt if motor size is less 10 HP. This is why there is umpteen million 9.9 HP motors on 12 and 14 foot aluminum Jon boats up here.
