bring it on ... I've killed some really good deer during rains including downpours. Will be at the lease this weekend NE of Fairfield and then most of next week out SW of Ozona, then back to Fairfield the following weekend.

The entire state of Texas getting a heavy dump of rain this weekend? Where is this storm coming from that they can forecast this? Well, there is a 20% prediction it is not going to rain. The storm chaser forecast I watched mentioned a dip in the upper level jet stream as the reason. There also was talk of a colder front possible closer to the 5th. But yea this far out, the computer model predictions often change or the day it starts changes. But at 80% chance forecasted now for the region I am in, I think it is safe to say rain is coming on or close to those dates where I will be. I thought the moisture was coming from a disturbance in the Pacific? I guess that is where it is coming from then. https://www.weatherstreet.com/models/gfs-jetstream-wind-forecast.phpThat's disturbing alright.

We have thunderstorms forecast. I won't be sitting in an open tower stand with a 30-06 lightning rod if that comes to pass.

I don't mind hunting in the rain, but it sure makes for a messy deer camp. And outside cooking turns into a challenge.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

This thread gave me an idea. I just ordered from Amazon for next day delivery a pop up canopy to set up in front of my camper door. or I can park my Three Wheeler under it.

I wish I had not sold my canoe. Could use it to cross a pretty wide, shallow, soft muddy bottom area.

If I am being real serious about being stealth entering my blind I often use a canoe to paddle from beside the gate right to the back of my stand. I can climb in usually without even disturbing deer under the feeder. Not this trip. With the rain they are forecasting it will likely have a huge wave of water come down it at some point. When it has been really bad, the water has almost reached the base of that tower.

Wichita county right now is showing 90% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday. While we need the rain I need to kill a deer more haha! We're going to go and see what happens.

Folks in Burn Ban counties would rather see rain than dead deer.

Folks in Burn Ban counties would rather see rain than dead deer. Young county went under a 90 day burn ban about two weeks ago. I doubt it will be rescinded before the weekend rains, so that will suck not having a campfire in the evenings opening weekend. Especially with everything drenching wet. We are visible from the road and it is a stickler with the landowner, so before it is said we can't be outlaws in that regard even if we wanted to.

I don't care about the rain. Warm weather is not good but I'm upset it's an East wind. My best spot is not set up for an East wind.

We have 12 blinds. Half covered and others are open tripods or quads. Only issue I have with rain is we do most of our cooking outside at 1 trailer that does not have and awning hecause last time they set it up in rain someone forgot to lower 1 side.
Need rain in NW Burnet County just like most areas. Under a burn ban.

Not sure what to think. 5 or so years ago our biggest stand got struck by lightning the week before the opener. I didn't even know until I got there opening morning. Everything inside was fried. We tore everything out, got new windows, covers, and chairs, patched and painted. It's huntable but I damn sho don't wanna be in it if that happens again. And of course that is the stand where one of the top 2 bucks I've ever seen on this place over the last 9 years is like clockwork. And I always have my dog with me so that makes camp a muddy mess. Not for tracking, just cuz she loves it. I just wish she'd stop eatin' cow pies and dropping bombs on me all morning.

Wet weekend and the fact that our landowner won't let us shoot a trophy until after the rut is gonna have our camphouse empty for the opener.

We had a nice enclosed double wide that was wiped out by a microburst. 2 years ago an EF0 or EF1 narrowly missed 2 stands.

80% chance at lease in Childress for Saturday and Sunday. Roads get so slick it is dangerous to drive them and slide off into a canyon. So, may be sitting in motel on opening weekend. I hope not, its an 800 mile round trip for me. Ditto. I'll be east of Twitty this weekend and we're looking at 96% chance of thunderstorms and about 1" of precip total. The roads aside I don't really look forward to sitting in a metal box on the open prairie in a thunderstorm.

Yep, I just looked and they changed the forecast to 96% chance for the three days that I will be there. If I can get in, and that would be very doubtful except for the first day before the roads get soaked, I'll be sitting in a popup with drips all day. And bless her heart, my 78 year old young bride will be sitting right there next to me. I couldn't ask for a better hunting partner. .

My area of panhandle right west of you (hall county) is 2-4” Friday thru Monday. Knowing my luck, I’ll be glad to get 1” on my spot. Lots of season to go, so I’ll be pushing my “opener” back a week as I don’t want to fight the red snot and rain. Usually better hunting the closer you get to thanksgiving anyway.

Man I have only shot one buck on the opener in 20 years. Think might wait this one out. Not fun at camp when it rains. I have a nice cabin but fun to hang with the guys and watch football.

I'm actually in the very south part of Hall county. I booked and paid for rooms for 5 nights, (non refundable) in Childress so I am going. But don't know if I will be able to even get to the ranch as we have to go though another ranch first. Oh well, it still beats staying home.

Fifty years ago, rain, ice, heat.....bring it. I hunted regardless. Now, wrasslin around with a deer or hog in "the mud, the blood and the beer" is not any fun. At all. I will wait for some dry weather. Good luck to all of you that will be hunting.
