I'm a morning person anyway, so I'm going out before sun up and see what I can see.

Depends on the place and conditions. Biggest I ever killed was in afternoon, but probably more wall hangers in the am. Who knows. Just get out there. : )

JCB, when people say they kill big bucks in the middle of the day they are probably not killing them over feeders at that time. None of my midday bucks were over feeders.

No doubt!!! All the guys I have hunted with over the years that brag about all the mid day bucks they have seen or killed are usually in camp by 9am and don’t go back out until 5pm so they clearly are not hunting feeders or even a stand. And they are usually telling me about these mid day giants while we are sitting in camp........(are you ready for it)........in the middle of the day! roflmao

Seriously.....if it works for you than go for it. I have just had my fill of it and know the odds are severely stacked against me. It’s gotten to the point that when we sit around camp and people bring up the subject and how great it is, someone is bound to roll their eyes and get up and leave because their BS meter just maxed out.

Thank you sir! He was 154 or 156 and change. I have the score sheet at the deer lease, I'll be able to confirm here in a couple weeks.

JCB, if I get your gist then I agree with you. Being successful at something by going against the norm is often something folks will stretch the truth about. It’s just not the case with me. Those that hunt with me rarely see me during daylight hours. But it’s definitely not for most.

You mean you don't keep a list of every buck you've ever killed, it's score, and when you killed it in your gun safe? rofl

Bigger bucks, AM by a land slide. When you start shooting them when you're 10 years old they add up.

You keep that list in your safe?

It’s in the folder with my trust and all the paperwork for my LTC.

Next to my passport, the list of all my guns/optics with serial #'s.........

The biggest buck I shot was at 2 pm and was an all day long sit in a ground blind . He was definitely not on a feeder . Shot him at 14 yards with my bow. I had seen him 5 times during bow season and had his trail pattern down . He had never hit a feeder every time I had saw him before.

That's how they get big, not hitting feeders. I can't recall shooting a buck at a feeder. My two biggest were never seen on camera or live until I shot them during the rut.

It may depend on location but in Louisiana and east Tx, big bucks are rarely seen/killed at feeders. I usually do not stay until 2pm (just too slow usually), but during the rut at least, I will often stay until 11:30 or noon. Have taken my biggest bucks during very late morning. Although deer sightings are often slow this time of day, my theory is that the dominate bucks will often roam once the does lay down during midday.

I prefer killing a deer in the morning just so I don't have to bumble around in the dark. I have probably killed more deer in the morning. While I don't have a score sheet in my safe (love it!!), i did keep a journal for the first 50 or so deer I killed and it's probably 60-40 in favor of morning. Now if Bambi & Feline don't show up until the afternoon, I'm not gonna pass just because it's getting dark. I do have flood lights just for this purpose. banana
