Yep. I have a lot of draws this time. I'm expecting to draw NR exotic and that waterfowl/pheasant as well.

Good Luck to everyone.

They already started drawing Exotic. I got a not selected on South Llano. Three more to go.

It's weird how they go straight to "Not Selected" on some hunts. South Llano had 20 permits, and went from "Pending 1st Draw" to "Not Selected" in under 20 seconds. All 20 people selected already accepted and paid?

Yeah that is strange how they do that. No standbys for that hunt either.

Yeah I just noticed that I put in for the SP instead of the WMA for Powderhorn. I did not intend to do that.

Going straight to not selected isn't because all of the permits got accepted. The hunt manager for the hunt decides if the hunt goes to not selected or pending 2nd draw after the primary draw is done. I got this information from TPWD.

Interesting. What would be the logic behind doing that?

Makes sense. The first South Llano hunt is next week so they couldn't do a 2nd draw anyway. Someone could accept their permit the same day as the hunt start.

zilch. There are a couple second draw on NWRs but I don't expect to draw those. It's down to a couple of waterfowl still not drawn and hogs. I usually draw hogs somewhere.

Payment/Acceptance deadlines are normally 10 calendar days from the date of the drawing.

If all hunt permits are not accepted by the payment/acceptance deadline, a Secondary Draw will be performed to select alternate hunters.

I had 21 but with my BIL we averaged out to 19. Not sure that cubing is moving the needle for most of us with high LPs. It is still a random drawing so low LP applicants are still probably snagging some of the high demand hunts.

I would guess probably based on spotlight surveys for population. They give some set # of tags away as a baseline and then if they think they need to reduce the population for habitat management reasons they may have some extra permits to give out. I would guess the exotics are still hurting from the big freeze a few years ago.

What I have been told on every WMA I have hunted on that had exotics is the long term plan is to eradicate all exotics from the property. For example Powderhorn WMA the plan was to rid the area of Sambar to manage native wildlife. But they also limit the take of exotics on most of these hunts so it makes me wonder if there may be some internal conflicts about the long term goals for these places.

I believe the plan for biologists is to restore habitat back to the way it was before humans altered it. Until money enters the conversation.

That would make sense to me at pretty much every property I know about except for Mason Mountain. I am sure there is plenty of internal conflict on the issue of exotic vs. native wildlife management on these properties.

I hunted Mason Mountain twice in it's first or second year and one other time since that. Actually Mason Mountain was supposed to be rid of exotics by 2006. I did just read where the half dozen species left out of the original fourteen are now part of an exotics management study. So it does look like some long term goals did change for that one.

When we hunted Powderhorn on the GDE hunt a few years ago it surprised me how the biologists talked about the Sambars. I have heard nicer things about Feral Hogs than what they were saying. I would prefer to hunt exotics than WT at this point.
