Looking at FOX news web-site they are saying it will hit land as a CAT 4.

Seeing some reports that the storm track has wobbled a little to the south which is great. 10 miles south of us will be a God-send.

Local forecasters think the current Cat 3 strength at landfall is a little high... they're thinking it may be a strong 2. Looks like the weather coming in from the north will not be kind to the storm as well. All good news to wake up to.

Most structures built in the last 15-20 years, by all accounts, are really well-built. So if someone's not in surge or flood danger, I can kinda see the desire to ride it out. Still not advisable, though. Lots of us have no choice but to evacuate per the orders.

Honest question and no stones being thrown......why don't you have a choice?

Couple reasons... the counties have issued mandatory evac notices for certain Evac Zones. Commensurate with that, the military has issued identical mandatory evac notices for the same zones. Violating those orders are bad juju.

Kry226, I feel for ya. I was living on the coast when Rita was headed straight for us in SE Texas in 2005, just after Katrina. I evacuated to Abilene TX and the drive took me 18 hours when it should've been 6 hours. It was a miserable experience but all of my stuff was untouched when I got back. I don't feel that's going to be the case for a lot of folks in Florida on this one.

KRY226, hope you and the family are all good and safe. My wife's family who live in Sarasota left yesterday for the east coast of FL to get out of dodge. 3 of their houses were pretty messed up from the first storm surge, this one might finish their houses off.

Thanks, fellas. Wife and son are in Louisiana and Texas-bound to link up with our daughter tomorrow. I'm in my Jump-TOC near Orlando, running C2 about 80 miles from the coast. Should be in good shape to ride it out from here. angel

Gotcha….I initially read that as you had no choice but to stay….hence the question. Take care.

Yeah, I could have worded that better. We had no choice but to evacuate.

Our oldest daughter and her husband are still on their cruise, and in Jamaica at this time. Out of Milton’s path, but sort of stuck. Supposed to dock somewhere on the coast near Orlando and fly out in the next few days, but that’s not likely. Says they’ll take the option of staying on the ship for the next cruise.

Glad they're safe!

Raining now as the outer bands have arrived. Still tracking south of the bay, but it looks like they're not as confident that it will weaken to a cat 3 by landfall. Still currently a cat 5. soap

Now a Cat 4. geekfreak

You were the one who made a deragtory comment toward me, I never said anything to you

I had to deal with 3 hurricanes in a row in Manila this time last year rained heavy for 12 days and strong winds., I had to reschedule my Cancun trip this week due to another Hurricane forming, I am sick of dealing with Hurricanes.

When I hear Milton I think of Office Space and Milton Berle, Remember this is called the Off Topic Section of the THF

I never made a comment toward you... I asked you a question, based on your tone deaf posts, and your response sealed the deal. And it doesn't matter what you think of when you hear the name of the storm, or how sick of hurricanes you are. Making light of a situation in which many fellow human beings are in harm's way, and sadly, one in which many will likely lose their lives, puts your lack of empathy on display for everyone, and is extremely poor form- at best. That this is O/T is irrelevant.

But again, please continue posting your memes and confirming what many of us already know.

My brother and his wife evacuated this morning from Rotonda West (west of Port Charlotte) and amazingly found a hotel room at Miami airport. They were going to ride it out but the storm has shifted a bit South and storm surges now predicted to be around 8-10 ft. His neighborhood is only 11 ft above sea level.

Glad your family made it back to Texas KRY. This is going to be a bad one.

My wife’s parents, deceased now, had a nice house on Morningside Drive in Venice. We were wondering this morning how high above sea level the house was. Probably not high enough to survive.

Katrina wiped the house we had built in New Orleans from existence. Same with a rent house we once had, and an apartment building we once lived it. Removed them from any sign of previous existence. Luckily, we didn’t live there any more.
