Looks like it could be a major hurricane with a direct hit on Tampa. This is going to get ugly. Florida is having a tough season.

First time in over 100 years. Since 1100 today, it has been trending a little farther south, though.

I have family in the Tampa area that were wiped out in the last one. They don't have anything left to get damaged in this one and insurance isn't paying squat.

Has anyone saw a storm start in the gulf before? Maybe I just haven’t been paying attention. It’s new for me.

Many have formed in the Gulf, especially this time of year.

IIRC, this one actually came from the Pacific, crossed Mexico into the Gulf, and got stupid.

Oldest daughter is on a big cruise ship in the Bahamas, and griping about the heavy rain. My wife was showing sympathy. I asked why she was so sympathetic to a bad decision made by the daughter, since she knew well in advance that the hurricane was on the way. The wife said “she booked it months ago”, as if that made the bad decision a good one. I had no response to that. Oh well, I suppose the boat driver will head to safer waters.
