I've been running 135gr HAM'R Bonded in my 8" gun. I decided to switch to the 125 CC HAM'R round and got the note inside about removing the cast bullet copper. I've always just used Sweets 7.62 Solvent. Have you found anything better for removing copper? Thanks!
In "theory" you're supposed to remove the copper every time you switch from one alloy to another and I used to do this, but since purchasing Lehigh and having to do SO much bullet testing I quit even cleaning my WC mfg barrels and have seen no reduction in accuracy, even after switching between bullet brands and shooting 500rds+ between cleaning. Our bores are honed to a mirror finish prior to rifling and they just don't copper up. The two NULA and one converted Savage I've been using lately all have over 500rds through the barrels and all three will still shoot sub .8" the majority of the time if I do my part. I'm not sure why they put that note in???
I don't like Sweets, it's too aggressive. Make sure you don't leave it in the bore more than the time it takes to scrub the bore!!! Lots of good barrels have be ruined by leaving Sweets in the bore too long. Our bore friendly solvent or Bore Tech Eliminator are much better choices.
Hi all, I’m new to the forum but have been reading this thread for some time now. Have had great success reloading 300 Ham’r with Sierra 125 SPH bullets and Lehigh 110 CC so far. Components are CCI41, Starline, CFEBLK through a WC 20” 15 twist upper I put together. I opted for no gas (gb backwards to seal barrel gas port) in anticipation of either a Bond Arms or Fight Lite ar15 lever lower (if they ever actually ship!). I like the idea of a truly modern take on the 30-30 lever gun with free floated barrel, AR mag fed, rotating bolt loaded hot. For now it’s a straight pullback…
Now I must dabble in subs. I know it’s not ideal but it’s certainly possible. My 15 twist mean keeping with short bullets and no expansion (just for smacking steel Hollywood quietly). So which powder? No gas cycle concerns. My current plan is the same 125 SPH bullet over N120, like my blackout. If I can find 1000fps and 1-2 MOA, then I’m done, but next powder would be N133. Any ideas besides reminding me that’s not the point of 300 Ham’r 🤣?
Thank you

Hodgdon has some good advice on their website regarding reduced loads. You can't get in too much trouble with Trail Boss if you follow their instructions. I prefer to only shoot steel when using subs so I can tell when I get a squib load because I have stuck a bullet in the barrel once. The other precaution I take is no rapid fire with subs.

Thanks, Bill. I just snagged some Bore Tech eliminator on Amazon.
Just went to snag another 200 rounds of HAM'R Nickel 125g Controlled Chaos ammo. It says its being discontinued. Can you please tell me what you are replacing it with?

Thanks,
Once current inventory of the of the gen 2 bullet load has been sold it will be replaced with a gen 3 bullet that is more accurate with the same terminal performance. Same for the 110gr CC load.
I enjoyed reading the Ham’r piece written in the October edition of the American Rifleman magazine. While rudimentary, it was still well done. And provides basic data and information about Bill’s work to millions who haven’t a clue. Or have a Forum like THF to gain such a wealth of knowledge.

I've shot it to 600yds on steel and you can do it no problem, but the trajectory and terminal performance at that distance is not the greatest.
I consider my setups to be 300yds max and realistically more like 250yds for hunting.
+1
We shot some on our long range (1200yds) Fri evening and I shot a 4.2" 5 shot gorup at 500yds out of my NULA 20S with a 135gr CC (long mag box only)
+1
While I would never take a shot more than 200 yards while hunting when I want to show off I can routinely ring a 12 inch gong at 500 yards. as long as the wind isn't blowing too hard.
The website currently shows mid-length gas tube length for both the 11" as well as the 8" Ham'r barrel - The 11" is carbine and the 8" is pistol, correct?

It was quite a surprise to see a 300 Ham'r load made by WC that featured a 110gr Barnes TTSX bullets. Didn't even know they would fit in the case properly. What does this bullet do that the other Lehigh bullets do not? How does it fit in for deer, hogs, bigger game etc...? Is it better for longer ranges?
Thank you

"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

Yes, the 8" should be pistol length
Just to save anyone running the 8" with a suppressor a little trouble, the pistol gas length is already putting quite a bit of stress on the recoil system. I've found that an H3 Buffer paired with a Sprinco red spring will get it back to perfect 4 o'clock ejection into a nice little pile. The rifle still locked back on an empty mag, even when I held it loosely to test, so it's good to go.

That's good to know, thanks. I shot my 8" with a Geissele H1 buffer & Super 42 spring (suppressed & unsuppressed). No cycling issues or LRBHO issues, but I wasn't checking for ejection patterns. It now has a standard carbine spring and H2 buffer (or will when I finish the new build out). I'll take an H3 buffer with me to the next range session and check the ejection pattern.

These are a special bullet Barnes (under the old ownership) made for us to load 7.62x40WT ammo YEARS AGO and is designed for lower velocity. We were moving some inventory around and found them. Terminal performance out to 200yds should be very similar to the LD TME and the bonded bullets. The LD Controlled Chaos or Tipped Controlled Chaos will perform as designed at the lowest impact velocity of any load we offer.

I should have also added this was tested with 125gr CC and 135gr HAM'R Bonded.
The 11.3" barrels are still showing out of stock... did I miss the window to order?
Here's what I found out.

As of Monday, I was told that they were at laser which is the last step of production. They’ll then go to blast and polish, hopefully no more than a week to get through this process. Then they’ll be back on the shelf for retail sales.
I’ve got people beating me up about them being back in stock too. Thanks!
