About the only way I feed pellets is in a trough. Like BOBO says, moisture is not your friend. I don't even feed my Ibex their usual pellets when there is any type of moisture. The pellets swell up and they won't touch it. If most of those protein pellets are not eaten off the ground, It may create a mess when/if the ground in the pen gets covered with swollen up pellets that deter the deer instead of attracting them, hope not, will find out soon enough. Coons will help clean it up some, they aren’t as picky
Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, b/c they know not victory nor defeat"- #26 TR
