My mom started smoking in her teens and quit cold turkey in her 60's. She died from lung cancer four years ago at age 84. Best of luck folks! You can do it!! My Mother also started smoking as a teen. Died at age 58 from lung cancer, that is how she ''quit". Horrible thing to watch. So folks........think about it: You're going to quit one way or the other. I don't recommend doing it the hard way. I started smoking at age 18. Got up to two packs a day at one point. Went home to visit one day, ran up the stairs to say hello and found myself out of breath at the top of the stairs. Knew exactly what it was from. Grabbed the pack of cigarettes from my shirt pocket, threw it in the trash and never touched another one. Now, I know....it was much easier for a 20 yr. old to quit smoking than for those who have had a the 'habit' for many, many years. But do it now.

A friend of mine just died from lung and throat cancer, 58 years old. Tabaco user for 45+ years.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

I saw some guys start when I was in the USAF. When the DI said “Smoke ‘em if you’ve gottem” it became a privilege. And a way to relax a few minutes.

It's pretty sad to see someone with an oxygen mask in one hand, and a lit cigarette in the other, alternating them for each breath.

I quit in 98. Was smoking 2 plus packs a day. You can do it man!
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Today was tough. Almost 300 miles on the road. Pretty sure I got on my wife’s nerves telling her I wanted a cigarette every ten minutes.

Find something benign that occupies your mind. Popping open sunflower seeds in your mouth or something like that.

Find something benign that occupies your mind. Popping open sunflower seeds in your mouth or something like that. This. ^ You need to find things to do to occupy your mind. Eating helps a lot ( I gained a lot of weight for a long time). Hand to mouth, like a cigarette. It's psychological. After about two weeks it got a little easier for me. I'm pretty sure my body was clear of nicotine, but my brain still wanted to smoke. By one month I knew I had broke the chain and was free. But, probably, for a solid year I would eye the smokes in stores, but I never bought another pack. It felt good to say no I don't need them and walk out a strong willed individual.

Another thing, too. You really want to have to quit before you actually do quit. I couldn't tell you how many times I would throw away two or three unopened packs of cigarettes. But I wasn't ready to quit...... because by morning I would be digging in the trash looking for my smokes. It was pathetic.
But for me, the last straws were two things. One, I was having circulation issues with my legs at night. That was a little scary. And two, a friend of mine whom I worked next door to ended up with throat cancer and had to have a voice box to speak. He died. That frightened the hell out of me. So my desire to quit, along with other events, got me to where I needed to be, physchologically, so that I could quit for good.

I quit Copenhagen a dozen times with the “after this can” or on Monday attitude.
The one that took is when I threw away a full can, cold Turkey.

Been quit for over 10 years now. After a month or 2 food started tasting a whole lot better and it shows.

25 years tobacco free. I don't miss it a bit. I'm glad to be rid of the addiction, and now very glad of it when I see cigarette prices of $7 to $8 a pack! Wow, either retire or smoke, those are the two life choices past 60 years old.

I did quit nicotine 100%. I didn’t want two separate battles. Best way! In theory, the physical addiction is down to 10% after 72 - 96 hours. After that, it's all a mind game that you have control of! I tried quitting using "crutches" and it never took. It was difficult killing a 35 year addiction, but cold turkey worked for me and it's been about 15 years. The desire to smoke died completely after around 60 days.

I got some flavored toothpicks on amazon that helped a lot. I was really surprised how long the toothpicks hold their flavor. They've helped a lot with keeping my hand and mouth busy. Cherry flavor is my favorite, but I also got the citrus too. Both have cinnamon flavor in them too it's what gives them their "spice" flavore. https://amzn.to/3N5TFB7
