My emergency cash is in a high yield savings account. It was 5%. I just read my email. They wasted no time lowering it. Nearly 100% of my retirement and trading accounts have been riding the wave near 100% in S&P 500 etfs with trailing stops that never hit. Up over 20% year to date so considering my goal was just to keep up with inflation, I am happy with that. There are thousands of factors to consider, but as savings rates come down, I could see people moving cash back to the market to keep up with inflation and FOMO running the market up further as the fed cuts rate further. With overbought corrections and of course the election could throw a big wrench into the works. That crash is inevitable. Just not tomorrow, but who knows.

"Hi John,
Yesterday, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates. Starting September 19, here’s how it will affect your M1 accounts:

High-Yield Cash Accounts and High-Yield Savings Accounts
The base rate will now be 4.50% APY."

I haven't been here quite 20, but I cannot tell how many times I have read about the inevitable crash due to all these horrible factors. I am sure it is coming soon, but my allocation has not changed, the world has always been a turbulent place. I know, "this time it is different"

One thing I have always said in my 35 years of investing, "I would rather be in the market when it goes down, than not be in it when it goes up." Investing and risk tolerance is all about what you can stomach. I can stomach being in the market when it goes down, I could not stomach not being in it when it goes up. Pretty sure I said these exact words on this forum Feb 2009, the worst doom and gloom time, we were doing corporate bail outs, the country was a mess. I tried to dig up that old post I made, but it does not look like the search feature is work right going back that far on the OT forum, maybe sniper john can find it. But I remember I made that post when literally the market bottom out, I mean it started heading up right after I made that post. I told everyone on that post "now is the time to be in the market, that one day you will look at this post and wish you listen to me." One thing I have learned, the market is incredibly resilient. Even with bone heads running our country and bone head decisions made, the market powers right through it. As long as company's are making money and growing profits, this will always be the case, and when it doesn't, the world is near the end, which I hope I never see, and my kids never see. But it will probably happen one day.

I was an SMU student at the time get my finance degree, working part-time at Shearson Lehman Hutton down town Dallas as a marketing assistant for a stockbroker doing cold calls, I witnessed black Monday firsthand. I started investing 1990, I didn't have any money before that. My first 4 stocks I bought where Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, and Intel. My strategy back then and still use today, identify company's where earning growth is higher than their P/E ratio.

Well the dot com crash was not nice to me, learned my lesson about investing on margin, and was about 40% on margin when the crash hit, got margin calls and forced to sell when I did not want to. But yeah, if I did not have my kids and family to worry about, I would most definitely be retired and skiing 150 days a year. But I also got started late in life, I skibummed till I was 25 years old, then went to school.

I don't make this stuff up freerange. I got my masters in finance and been a financial analyst all my life, well after being a skibum.
