Sorry but know what you’re going through. At the start of Covid I decided to make a cutting board. While ripping one of the boards, it’s started “walking” and threw my left middle finger into the blade. Made a cut about 3/4 of the way across the tip of my finger but didn’t cut it completely off…got lucky. It did cut the nerve and I have little to no feeling in the tip of that finger.
Best of luck on a quick recovery!!!

Sorry to see that. Glad you didn’t lose it, and hope you recover soon.

A friend of mine is still getting over the same injury except he lost his nail. Doc rebuilt with a skin graft from another finger and reattached the tendon. He is doing OK and will have full use of the finger. Starter pin and push blocks but of course hind sight is 20/20. I wish you a speedy recovery and get back on that project as soon as you are up to it!

Been there! I sat a grinder down one day and it didn’t turn off. It bumped something and shot off the table, in my immediate reaction and infinite wisdom, I tried to catch it. Middle finger passed between the grinding disc and guard, not much room there, took the tip down to the underside of the nail. It healed back, doesn’t look bad, but the nerve damage is miserable.

Man that hurts just looking at it. I don’t feel bad now about the hole I put in my forehead above my left eye today when I walked into a metal plate.
I hope you heal fast and they have you something for the pain soon to come.

Remember, it takes a little longer to heal at our age. A few years ago we would have just wrapped a little tape over that and gone back to work. lol

That’s a rough one. I can’t count the number of times I came close to a machinery injury like that. That’s going to take a while to heal.

By the way, I wouldn't be rubbing any dirt on that one.

The damage is on the top of the finger, so I’m hoping that all the wires and tendons on the bottom are mostly Ok. Got the report just now from BS&W by email. It made mention of fractures, so the cutter did get bone deep. Yay me! I’m on hydrocodone, but starting to get some pain. I talked to the hand center a bit ago, and they said the doc would decide when to get me in. Hope it’s today. This sucks, and I can’t blame anybody but myself. Didn’t rub any dirt on it. I hope they got all the walnut wood chips out when they cleaned it. Update: I’ll see the hand guy on Friday morning. Shortly thereafter will be the hand job.

Man, every time I look at that pic, I cringe.
603, just curious, how did they clean that up? You can see where the bit sliced the skin up into strips. Did they remove the skin or did they try to piecemeal you back together?
Hope you are feeling ok today.

Hope you are feeling ok today. Did you watch them clean it up? Anytime I have patchwork done on me I like to watch to see what they did. Even got to help once in the Navy because the young corpsman got sick while trying to help the Dr. working on me. I therefore got to help sew up my leg. The Dr. said I did a good job when he finished.

OUCHY. I feel your pain. Really hoping the ligaments survived the incident. Mine didn't and ended up like this for a couple of months.

They cleaned it by deadening it with two shots at base of the finger. Then a nice young lady came in and cleaned it. She irrigated it with a bottled and labeled water like liquid, and lightly shuffled through the meat strips and looking for debris, which I explained would be walnut chips/sawdust. I watched closely and was happy to see an undisturbed fingernail. Then she flooded the area with a lot of a red/brown liquid. Then she wrapped it with a dark yellowish ‘petroleum gauze’ and gauze pads. Later a guy came in and removed the cotton gauze, splinted the finger, and rewrapped it. Then I got a tetanus shoulder shot, some pain drugs by mouth, and two quite painful shots, one in each butt cheek. Those reminded me of the legendary Gamma Globulin butt shot I got in the Marines. They broke off the needle in the guy in line in front of me, gave him the shot again, told me to step up and relax my butt. Sure…no problem. Happily, these didn’t hurt for too long.
Friday morning I see the doc. I hope I don’t wind up in that crazy rig like dkershen had. Luckily, I’m pretty much caught up on ranch and hunting chores, so there’s nothing that needs serious attention. I’ve also been covering for my neighbor for the last 90 days, and he was released to go back to his normal life the same day I hurt the finger. Good timing, if I need help.

It's good to hear the "meat strips" were savable. Help the finger heal faster. Sounds like you're doing well and you get yourself some rest. Last time I saw something like that was when I worked at Payless Cashway in Garland. Guy I worked with in the yard cut his finger off in the saw room. He was wearing his gloves and the blade caught the glove and that was that. He wanted to be a police officer, but it took his shooting finger. Maybe he learned to shoot left-handed. Heal up for us!

Oh, I’ll be Ok. This is a bit inconvenient, but I can’t blame anybody. If I was a democrat, I’d be forced to blame Trump. I assume that Friday the doc will take a good look and schedule surgery. Gonna be a bunch of stitches, and surely my personal record number. But, that’s just me guessing. Stay tuned. I’ll share info. Got nuthin else to do.
