I got an idea…I’ll sell you my 30 Nosler for $4000, you take it and enjoy your hunt…when you get back, I’ll buy it back for $3300.

In the end you get what you want, save money and I’ll get to keep my badass rifle wink.

Cant go that $$. I can use their custom for free. BUT, thank you for the offer.

He would come out financially the same as he always does. But, he'd get to shoot a well made rifle, and ammunition that was actually load developed for the rifle. Instead of asking the internet for a pet load, trying it, it doesn't work, then selling the rifle.
and the problem is?? woot

Or just get a legit magnum...

6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08

I'd shoot the 6.5 Creedmoor for Nilgai, but I don't think the guides would let me. confused2

Especially if I decide I only want a cow. Kinda meat hunting. Nilgai bull mounts aren't that cool IMO.

There is one rifle in the classifieds here I would consider but its WAY overpriced.

I do like the Remington 700 long-range in 7mmPRC. right at $1K. 9 pounds though.

I just got a Bergara Sierra Wilderness in 7mm PRC and I am super excited to shoot it soon. Lightweight, very smooth action, good stock, and only $900 shipped to my FFL.

It'll be my elk gun for next season, but if it's accurate enough I might even play around with some low-volume ELR. A high BC 175gr 7mm projectile at 3k fps would be sick. It would take something like a 250gr .30 cal projectile to match that BC.

I’ll probably post my 28nos for trade or cash when I get back in town from elk hunting. 55-60 rd down, load worked up w/195 Bergers. It’s right under 7lbs with rail and brake.

.

They make a cool Euro mount. I wonder what they would require for a cow? Surely they don’t need the same firepower as a bull.

For whatever reason, .300 Win Mag brass currently seems to be much more readily available (Lapua, Peterson, PPU, PRVI, Nosler), and significantly less expensive (for example, $2.24/piece for Nosler at Graf's for WM vs $3.76/piece for WSM). And, with .300 WSM, it's pretty much just Nosler brass that is available.

If you're ever gonna consider hand loading, that's certainly a consideration.

Also, the .300 Win Mag excels, particularly when shooting heavy-for-caliber bullets.

I actually own a Tikka .300 WSM. It shoots well, but MVs with factory Winchester ammo (180 gr Power Pt bullets) are sub-2900 fps. Hand loads with 168 gr Barnes TTSX (H4350 powder) run up to 3150 fps without signs of excess pressure. But, the most accurate load by far has been with 168 gr Sierra Match King bullets (RL-19) at a very modest 3020 fps.

ADG, Lapua and Norma all make 300wsm brass...I don't think Lapua has released any yet but they have stated they are going to start in 2024...should be any day. The ADG and Norma aren't that expensive, like less than $250/100. The Norma is pretty good brass and based upon my other ADG brass, it's good stuff. Unknown Munitions has ADG in stock right now for $103/50.

Thanks for the heads-up on ADG brass at Unknown Munitions.

Midsouth, Powder Valley, and Graf's all have the Nosler currently priced fairly high ($3.60-$3.76/piece). Midway has it on sale right now at $2.33/piece. Neither Natchez nor Brownells have any. Interestingly, Unknown has it at $4.76/piece ($119 per box of 25)!!!

I'll take a hard look at ADG (but I've never ordered from Unknown Munitions).

For a tikka the max oal you’ll get is SAAMI 3.340 with factory mags. With our bottom metal you can get max of 3.50 with AICS mags. 3.50 is still not long enough to take full advantage of seating long to reach the lands or maximize case capacity with high bc bullets such as berger, ELD, etc.

With the 300 WSM you can load as long as you want and use LA mags if necessary.

Having said all that I have a 30 Nos built on tikka action that shoots 215 Berger hybrids at 2900+ 1/4 moa even with a .90 jump.

Very fond of my Sako 300 wsm, been shooting it since the rifle came out.
Bought some Hornady 300 wsm brass last month form Powder Valley.
I load 165-168 gr bonded bullets for it.
Put my cow bison down with 1 shot, from 300 yds.
