Called my brothers to see if anybody needs a few guns, cause I’m gonna have to leave them to somebody sooner or later. Both brothers have what they need. The BiL said he’s got the same problem, with his kids not needing any more firearms, so he sure doesn’t need any from me. One SiL has what he needs. The other SiL is afraid of guns and is more in need of a backbone stiffener than a pistol. A couple of the grandkids, the older ones, will get pistols and rifles. The other two want a pistol or two, but unless they take gun safety courses and come here for supervised gun familiarization, it won’t happen. I am overstocked. I’m gonna have to do the thing I dread, and eventually sell some of my prized possessions. Man, I hate that.

I suppose I’m not the only one with that problem.

It's time for someone else to enjoy them, sell them without any regrets.
Remember what's important to you isn't to someone else.

When the time comes I'll be selling mine, one less thing for my wife to deal with.

Let em go.

Good advice, for sure. But, I got my old 220 Swift out of the safe and checked the sights earlier this week. Bought it off a New Mexico cowboy in about 1980. Tang safety Ruger 77V that had a 20” bull barrel. The guy had it cut down so it’d fit on the dash of his ranch truck. Been popping coyotes with it for 40 years. Had the guy from Rifles, Inc rebarrel it years ago. Gonna be so hard to let go. All those memories.

If you don't use them, sell them. Someone else will carry on their memory and enjoy them.

Use the funds to buy loading components for the rifles and pistols you do use.

We all grow, and move on. Let your firearm sales help you to grow and move on.

When it comes to situations like this I recommend just working with an auction house to handle disposing of a collection. They'll get you (mostly) a fair price, and are set up to make it as painless as possible for you. And this way you know they'll go to someone who actually wants to things and they won't sit in a damp shed and rust away.

I've bought many from Burley Auction Gallery in New Braunfels. Can't recommend them highly enough.

I've already figured out that my guns are of little value to any of my kids or my wife. I'll let them have whatever they want but at this point none are much into hunting. If I live to be an old man, can't say what technology will look like and don't know if any of them will be something anyone will want. Several right now are on their way to being semi-antiquated.

Kids can have what they want but I'll probably donate them to youth or church outdoor camps before I get incapacitated. Same with my mounts, I'll donate what I can to museums or schools, only thing I ask is they don't end up on the wall of Texas Roadhouse or some nasty bar.

If I end up getting buried, I won't mind if they put my old .270 and my knife in the casket with me. Hopefully the good Lord will have a place where I can use them in the next life.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I idea what will become of mine. Not sure of the interest level of my kids yet. If they don’t want them I’ll find someone who does.

I've been selling mine off what I have sent a few of my nicer things to Rock Island Auction. I started collecting Birthday dated guns years ago, sold most of them on Gun Broker.

Know anybody with a Born on Date of 111197? I have a nice 1919 Commerical Colt that would make a great gift.

I'm in the same boat. Wife/daughter have very little interest with the exception for their CCW firearm. I've been buying / collecting for more than 40 years and I have more guns than I know what to do with. I guess I need to start thinning them out.

Speaking from the angle of my dad had a collection and having to work through selling them....if your kids/wife don't have interest, move out of them now. My brother and I have kept a few that we wanted but trying to sell the balance to give Mom a little extra cash is a pain. We haven't gone the auction route because I don't want to give away 20%-30% in fees.

Most auction houses charge the fee to the buyer to cover their expenses in the form of a buyer premium. You might be surprised at how well you can make out.

Yeah, I kinda got carried away several years ago. The itch has subsided. I have one or two that I just never found a use for and another couple that don't cycle worth a crap that I need to get rid of. Maybe Dad knew something I didn't by keeping it to the bare minimum of 3 or 4? nidea Nah. bang I can't let go of the .416 Rigby...you just never know.

My high school computer teacher worked for IBM in his younger years and had amassed a 200+ collection. He started selling them off a year or two after I graduated and offered me several at a fair price. I just didn't need them at the time and couldn't afford most of them anyway. His eyesight and health dictated it was time although he lived 20 more years. After moving about 50 of them he worked with an auction firm and sold all but a few that he kept until his death.

An auction firm…never would have even thought of that approach. Thanks.

price them right, they will sell fast.

It's a pretty big PITA selling a bunch to different individuals. If you have quite a few, the auction house sounds good as they do all the leg work for their fee. Make sure this includes shipping as it can get very expensive.

10 face to face deals would be time consuming in "Central Texas".

My daughters and their husbands are all gun people. I wish that I had more guns to leave them when I go, but they will greatly appreciate what little they will get.

Rock Island Auction Co has a facility in Bedford, Texas. You can take the firearms there and they will handle the rest, they catalog the items, take very good photos and advertise nationwide. I have done very well with them, most of mine brought more than I would have got trying to sell individually.

Ain't nothing worse than wasting a Saturday morning to meet a buyer for a gun and then they start low balling. Gun traders, cattle dealers and dog traders are all the same grin

Guess all I need is

Shotgun
Deer rifle
Gun by bed
Gun in truck
Gun in kitchen
Gun in living room
AR
AR .22
Grand fathers WW2 gun

Yup besides those, I should sell some but just can’t make myself do it.

My son doesn’t want them minus his great grandfathers gun. Hopefully grand kids will want some.

Yep, been moving a bunch this year. Helping family out for some years and I need to liquidate (not all of course).. And my situation is no family really to leave them with. Of course it's one of my hobbies, so I'm still in here shopping, ha!

That's a dam shame. I think a tiger is the most beautiful animal ever created by the Almighty. 'Hate to see them even in a zoo, and some human loon should not have one as a pet.

220 swift was my grandpa’s favorite rifle. I hoped to get his when he passed but my aunt and her daughters (my cousins) got in my grandmas head and had my mom and me written out if the will so I didn’t get a single gun of his.

People sometimes go nuts when someone is approaching death, especially about guns. Many an addict has slipped by after a death and raided the gun cabinet.
