I'm curious why you wouldn't recommend the 95gr CC for HD out of an 8" barrel? The 95gr is a discontinued bullet. When the current stock is gone, they're gone. Thanks for the info, but I was already aware of that. They are available now at clearance prices. I was curious if Bill had other reasons for not recommending them for HD use out of an 8" barrel.

I've never been a big fan of this bullet and it hasn't been a great seller either. Admittedly I don't have any experience with a 8" gun, the shortest one I've got is a 11.3" which I rarely shoot. So much performance is given up by going shorter than 14.5" that I don't personally have a need for them. 16"-18" is the "sweet" spot for this caliber.

I have an 8", 11", and a couple of 16's". I fully understand what you're saying about performance loss with a shorter than 14.5" barrel, but a shorter barrel in 300 ham'r performs very well in comparison to other AR15 type calibers in the same barrel length. If you want/need an 8" gun, a 300 ham'r performs much better in that barrel length than a 223, 300 blackout, 6.8, etc.

So does the 300 hamr perform better in an 11-12" barrel compared to the 6.5G and 6.8 spc? I know I have read where the Grendel is dependent on longer barrels but I am still not sure which caliber is best for SBR..... I am considering a 6.5g- 6.8 SPC or 300 Hamr.... Maybe one cycles better with a can???

I have an 11" Hamr that has become my favorite pig gun because it's compactness...it pushes a 130 hot cor at 2320...the pigs don't seem to be a real big fan of it I also have a 16" AR and a 16" bolt rifle in 300 Hamr, the bolt is new so I don't have a lot of time or data with it. Just for data sake, my 16" AR shooting the same load as the 11" is 2450...so that 5" scrubbed off 130fps...which is about what I expected.

I know I have read where the Grendel is dependent on longer barrels but I am still not sure which caliber is best for SBR..... I am considering a 6.5g- 6.8 SPC or 300 Hamr.... Maybe one cycles better with a can??? I don't have a 6.5G but do have multiple barrel lengths in both 6.8 SPC, and 300 Ham'r. The larger bore has an advantage with muzzle velocity, such that even with the lower powder capacity of the 300 Ham'r compared to 6.8 SPC, bullets 110gr and above do better out of the 300 Ham'r with the same barrel length. I think you mentioned in another post shooting under 100 yards in brush, so the 300 Ham'r with heavier bullets would probably have the advantage. They are all fine with suppressors, but you may have to tune the gas, dependent on the gas port size. The reason most prefer longer barrels in 6.5G is that they are interested in target shooting at longer distances (over 500 yards) and want the extra velocity of longer barrels. The 6.5G bullets tend to have a better BC than the 6.8 SPC, and the 6.8 SPC tends to be better than the 300 Ham'r. I've actually come to prefer the 30HRT (necked up 6.8 SPC) for more powder capacity in a 30 cal. It's a wildcat though, so not really suitable unless you have a lot of experience hand loading and building rifles.

CFEBLK and I freakin HATE it. It has the consistency of sugar sand and makes a HUGE mess of your loading bench. It doesn't work well with an Auto Trickler or Super Trickler and I'm dropping it with a Harrells Powder Measure...it does meter well but it's still a damn mess. Problem is, I did what Judd does and bought a bunch of it and have quite a ways to go before I need to look for an alternative...but that doesn't stop me from cussing it every time I pull it out

I end up doing the same but don't know about u but my excuse is usually to save on hazmat fee by ordering a bunch at once. thanks for the info.

I have 9lbs of CFE-BLK. I have an RCBS competition powder measure with the pistol/small rifle cylinder. They're rated to throw a max of 40gr, so I'm using about 70% of it's capacity. It's throwing ±0.1gr. I learned that when I was adjusting the measure, the test drops splashed out of the pan and made a mess. I started dropping into a small pill bottle and that solved the mess problem. Dropping into a case naturally doesn't make a mess either. I bought that measure as a response to the leaky Lee perfect powder measure that came in the Anniversary Kit. That thing seemed to leak more powder onto the table than it got into the case. It's probably fine for flake or stick powder, but it just couldn't contain that fine ball powder.

I use both A1680 (same powder as CFEBLK without the copper fouling additive) and CFEBLK and load on a Dillon 550 with no issues.

FL and their OEM #s are WC680 (A1680) and WC680X (CFEBLK), for load data they are basically interchangeable, the variability is lot to lot differences. There are several canister powders that are exactly the same. For example: Win 296/H110/11FS are the same powder

I was aware of the W296/H110 from back 20 years ago when I was reloading 357 max, but I've been out of reloading for a long while and wasn't aware of the CFEBLK/A1680 connection. I used A1680 in the 357 Max back then too if I remember correctly.

Bill,
What scope were you using on your Nula in Africa? One of the Leupold Ultralight 3-9x33 they used to make, 9.3oz.. Too bad they disc these great scopes. This is the scope I put on this rifle day 1 and I'll bet I've shot this rifle over 2000rds now and bounced it around in the mule a LOT of miles and it's never changed zero. It was still dead on when I got to Africa and dead on when I got home.

Bill,
Is the 250 TCC for the 9.3 still in development? Didn’t see them on the website.

It's final, just not through the "process" (production, packaging, photos, website posting) yet. Two of the guys used it in Africa to take a big Cape Buff and two Eland. None of the animals ran 50yds..

I hope this is not too off topic but if your Ham'r is suppressed do you also use any additional hearing protection? I guess I got in the habit from shooting my 5.56 AR which is almost as loud as some of my large caliber magnums. I use electronic ear plugs which not only suppress the noise but also offer the option of amplifying ambient noise which is handy for me being older and a little hard of hearing. With those babies plugged in I can hear the pigs coming before I see them which helps knowing where to look.

The 300HAM'R uses supersonic ammo. A set of soft plugs is all you need while shooting with a suppressor. Basically, its the same noise volume as shooting 223 or 300BO supersonic loads.

I finally got the little Garmin Chrono. I went to the range today and shot some 135gr Ham'r Bonded in my 8" SBR and 16" lightweight (6.4 lbs with ACOG and flashlight). Average of 20 shots for the Wilson HAM'R 8-inch Barrel was 2158fps. That's still over a 1000 ft-lbs at 125 yards moving 1850fps, which I believe Bill said is the expansion threshold for this round. The 20 shot average for the 16.2" Wilson barrel was 2450 fps. ShootersCalulator.com shows 1813fps at 250 yards with a 12.5" drop (50 yard combat zero). I have to say for a truck gun, the 8-inch is super handy and still packs a wallop inside 150 yards with the 135gr.
EDIT: I forgot to note the 8" is suppressed so is getting a slight bump in velocity.

For range work I use plugs or muffs, when out hunting I don't use any ear pro Our latest suppressor (we haven't even named it yet) is VERY quiet and the HAM'R sounds about like shooting a non suppressed .22 mag

I found 120gr Barnes TAC-TX bullets at MidwayUSA. This is what I really want to develop for. I ordered dies from WC and I'll need a press, lol. Since my focus is SD/HD, I'll probably start a thread on a different forum. Thanks for the great round, Bill!
