Got a Pic of this guy 2 nights ago for the first time. Looks like he's already shed velvet. Isn't it a bit early to be fully hard?

Wow. That is puzzling. Less humidity? More? Maybe that’s what the herd I haven’t seen the last 2 days are doing; rubbing it off.

Some might say it’s never too early to be fully hard.

Every other deer on camera is still in full velvet.

Depends on the area.

We'll have bucks still in velvet once MLD opens up.

I got pictures 2 days ago in Erath County and still in velvet. Probably 2 weeks out based on previous years.

It varies by area and every buck is an individual within that area. Bulk of ours are usually first week of Sept but I just saw our first hard horned other day.

8/27 the last two years for me in Mills county, so I would say not (that) early. Cams are down but I expect to see the first in the next few days.

Some are earlier than others. We have deer that are out of velvet by this time every year.

Same for me in the panhandle. Maybe a few that shed up to a week later.

All the ones I've seen in Llano and Burnet County are still in velvet.

I've got pics of a buck that was hard horned the second week of August in Jackson County. I dont recall ever seeing one shed that early here. All others are still in velvet

Years ago we saw a very wide flat 6 point at choke canyon in the state park. All the other deer were hard horn except him. Later we went back after season all the other bucks had dropped velvet and then out pops the unmistakable wide six rack intact. He was just off a little.

I've seen fawns on opening week of bow season that still had spots and once saw a fawn that looked like it was only a couple of weeks old. Fawns as well as horns don't always drop at the same time. A few bucks may still be in velvet when others have already shed or vise versa. Just depends
Spend time in the woods and nothing is a surprise anymore!
