Was is one of those things where some dude walked up to a cop and murdered him for no reason other than being a cop? God be with all officers out there.

All I know about is what the media had reported so FWIW, they reported that Officers responded to an Officer needs assistance call and they found the Officer dead in his patrol car. A pursuit ensued with the suspect(s) and the bad guy was killed.

Not going to go into details here as this is still an active investigation. The deceased officer was ambushed, never even got his seat belt off. The 2 other officers were also ambushed as they arrived to check on the deceased. I was next on scene and fully expected to deal be into a shootout based on the amount of gunfire heard on the radio.

I pulled up and encountered my worst fear, not being shot at, not chasing the bad guy, but 3 of my officers down.

I have no answers as to why. We will likely never know. But I will tell you that DPD is hurting, those officers need your prayers. The look of pain on the responding officer’s faces said it all.

Time and time again, these officers continue to impress me, day in and day out they charge into the unknown and handle business. Last night was no different.

I am so sorry for your loss. Having a brother officer shot in the line of duty is a horrible feeling, having to roll up on 3 shot is a lot to process. Please lean on your brother and sister officers, I am sure your department provides plenty of resources. Take care of yourself, you will go through all sorts of emotions. I am praying for all of yall.

Prayers lifted for Officer Burks family and friends, also for a full recovery for the Sr Cpl's who responded into a lake of fire.

FWIW, BigPig is being somewhat modest, understandable if you know him. He arrived while gunsmoke was still in the air, perp was leaving. He stayed with his fallen officers and managed the scene he was sadly presented with,, having directed others to pursue a murderer.

As most Leo's know, you kill an officer, you in a sense, hit a wasp nest with a stick, Leo's know if they will go after a officer, no one else is safe either.

IMO, Wade demonstrated the best of DPD and his commitment to his officers during the worst time an officer can face, loss and attack on other officers/co-workers. His good leadership will help others in his charge to stay focused and feel supported, even as he will have to process this all in his mind. It's hard to keep empathy in LE imo, all that you see can make you a bit "numb", but when it's one of your own, can be real tough.

Also kudos to the DpD dispatcher that noticed something strange and ask for officers to check on Officer Burks when they had no response from him, using gps to locate his cruiser.

Sr. Cpl's also stood tall last night.

“The suspect, identified as Corey Cobb-Bey, 30, arrived at the For Oak Cliff community center and parked his car around 10 p.m. Thursday.

He approached Dallas Police Officer Darron Burks, who was in his car parked near the front entrance of the building, and began recording their conversation, according to a release from the Dallas Police Department.

Cobb-Bey then pulled out a handgun and “executed” Burks as he sat in his vehicle.”

“Dallas Police say Cobb-Bey had made several concerning posts on social media, according to Dallas Police.

Videos show Cobb-Bey approaching police officers and talking to them, questioning them at times about what they are doing and why they are in certain places.”

Great post Western. Wade is a great guy. He has always treated me nice when I see him. LEO's are SO unappreciated.
