Yup.

So, the Cowboys continue to grab media attention, they have delusional fans, they garner some 800 million dollars in stadium revenue, and they are worth 11 billion dollars.

I dunno, but if that’s a laughing stock, I’d bet almost every other professional sports team owner would be happy to be in the Jones family shoes.

rjf - JJ is obviously a brilliant business man, no question on that. I’ve said for a few decades now, as long as the old man is alive, they will never see another Super Bowl. Now seeing his douchebag of a son, doubt it happens in my lifetime. Hell, my 9 year old boy may never see that come to fruition. #1995

They'll never understand. Jerry needs to stick to working with numbers and get out of the way and let someone competent run the team and make player decisions. The "Fans" can't see the forest for the trees. They're so wrapped up in the players themselves.

If you knew anything about what was going on you would know Jerry is not making the player decisions, Will McClay has been doing that for a long time now, he is effectively the GM. Jerry does nothing but rubber stamps these decisions and gets in the way of things, he's got you fooled thinking he calls the shots. rofl

As long as the beat the Washington Redskins I'm good with them. I strongly dislike anything about that whole DC area. Actually that stretches pretty much to anything East of the Mississippi. Only reason I cross that river nowadays is I have a daughter in South Carolina.

You're in denial. He has he's hands in everything. He goes to sleep at night dreaming of running a post route and taking it in for a touchdown. He probably has an earpiece up in his box stand calling plays.

The last time Jerry tried to make a draft pick was Johnny Manziel, lucky Stephen was able to talk him out of it and listen to McClay and they picked Zack Martin instead.

I'm sure Jerry did make the final decision on resigning Dak. McClay probably said "Jerry, it is like this, resign Dak and pay the market price, and know what you are getting, or let him walk next season, take a $40m cap hit in dead money, and we will probably suck for years till will draft a new QB that is better." There is really not a right or wrong answer on this. I think resigning Dak is a better path, and do a better job of scouting and developing the next QB. Tanking is no fun, unless you are a cowboy hater and internet troll, you would have a lot of fun with it.

How in the world do you know this is true? I'd like to see proof. If that's your opinion, fine. My opinion is Jones is a football idiot that makes dumb football decisions (still) like he always has. I cannot even say he's good with money any more after costing himself an extra several million dollars on Dak for the SECOND time. I'm not saying he shouldn't have re-signed him. I am saying the delays with the deals BOTH times made the deals much more expensive.

If only one could buy sense.

You nailed with good QB's taking pay cuts to help their team. Those are the QB's and their teams mindset that really want to win a championship.
As long as JJ is doing such a terrible job with contracts, the players and their agents will continue to take advantage of him.

Just a small sample of JJ history of bad decisions on contracts.

Zeke the Freak Elliiot. While Zeke is partying in Mexico, he demands a new contract after only two years in a 4 year contract. JJ caves gives him all of the money and Zeke comes back to camp looking like Bozo the clown with piercing all over his body, his on and off field performance went down hill right after the signing.
Did you notice how clean cut Zeke was in New England and now back with the Cowboys he is reverting back to the Bozo the Clown look hammer
Oh and to think they could have signed Derrick Henry who is a hell of a lot better running back than Zeke, who lives in the DFW area and openly stated that he wanted to play for the Cowboys. bang

Jaylon Smith 2nd round pick that tore his knee up in the Fiesta Bowl with a ACL and MCL tears along with nerve damage. Cowboys project player they sit him out his first year.
Gets on the field and has two decent years and the Cowboys resign him to a big contract, he sucks right after.

DeMarcus Lawrence demanded a new contract while injured, Cowboys say they will entertain it only if he takes physical and they look at his injury.
DLaw says no and they sign him anyways.

Daks previous contract, they could have signed him a year earlier and saved a ton of money, nope JJ played the game and lost again.

The list of just poor contract negotiations and ploys that the Cowboys have failed at go on and on.

Guy I know you talk about Daks new contract clearing up cap space to sign other players, well if JJ and Stephen had handled his previous contract the right way, they would not be in the situation they were in on this new absurd contract.

Why on Gods Green earth would you pay Dak or any other QB the richest contract in NFL history when they prove year after year that they are a bust in the playoffs and this is with with good players on both sides of the line confused2

Brady did that. So did Dirk. Jerry tried to play that card with the media with his comments last week, not sure if it helped.

You expect them to make good decisions 100% of the time? You think they are the only team that is not perfect with their decisions? Just look at the probowlers on this team vs other teams, they are tied for #2. Look at the players in the NFL, and who drafted them, they were ‘#1 last year. Drafting and retaining talent for this team is not their issue.

100%. Jerry is the sole reason I am no longer a fan. Coach Landry & Johnson probably get a stitch daily laughing at that douche. Unfortunately his son is also a tool so may not be a fan in this lifetime.

I would not call Stephen a tool, a rich goofy spoiled kid maybe? He will most likely be the next owner/CEO, and I got my fingers crossed he hires a GM, probably promotes McClay or hires Troy, and they install a new culture where the leader of the team is the head coach and not Jerry, which I will argue is the reason for their lack of playoff success.

I give credit to Jerry making McClay director of player personnel in 2014 letting him managing the draft, that has dramatically improved the talent on this team. Because they really sucked before that.

This for me. The cowboys were my team until they got rid of Jimmy Johnson, who made the championship team, but Jerry thought it was him. It was never Jerry and there will never be another championship with him steering.

No I would not have signed Dak to the richest contract in the NFL based on his playoff failures, I would have let him play this final year out.
If he plays great and takes us to the playoffs then continues to play great in the playoffs without his usual melt downs, then I would reward him with whatever the market is at that time, it cannot be much higher than what they gave him now.

On the flip side, if we go to the playoffs and Dak plays like Dak and crumbles under the pressure with a bad game, then I would try and sign him for what his true value would be at that time, which would be great backup QB money to which I know would never happen

Guy there comes a time when you just have to cut bait and move on from certain things.
You also bring up a great point on who can you sign that is better? Well nothing ventured nothing gained and we are certainly not gaining any super bowl rings with Dak!
