I go in and tell them to make me an offer. If I think it is fair, I will take it (so maybe they left $$ on the table). If I think it is too high, I will walk (so they priced it too high). I tell them I negotiate all day and don't want to do it in my personal time. I had a salesman tell his manager this one time and it totally seemed to blow his mind. He told me that's the way things work in this business. I like that style, Never heard that one before, I bet the salemans are floored when that happens

I shop around on the Internet until I see a deal I like and then go get it. Recently bought a RAM 2500 @ 22% off sticker and picked up a Jeep a couple of weeks ago @17% off sticker, those were the posted deals.

Lots of good info
If the guy I deal with has to leave and go talk to the sales mgr or guy behind the glass I don’t want him. Internet or fleet has been my best luck
And just because I’ll never forget, F Grapevine Ford and the Acura dealer in Grapevine

The last two new cars I have purchased have been most online. I determined exactly what I wanted, including color. I find a VIN for a vehicle that matches what I want and send it to every deal within 100 miles. I make it clear that I want a drive out price and when I come to pick it up, I will walk if anyone tries to upsell me anything. Been doing it like this over 10 years. send the info on what im looking for and what is their best price, I even tried to give a guy my business but he couldn't match the price of the other dealer. Go in sign the paperwork give them a check and leave.

Bill Fick Ford was the easiest purchase I’ve ever made. They drove the new one to me, signed like 4 pages, and they took the old one with them. Only place I’d deal with on a Ford.

You'll get a better deal by financing over cash. You can pay off the balance after a couple months. Buy them together and trade together. What you have and what you want makes a big deal too.
Pass the gravy.

I've found the best dealers who give the best prices in vehicle forums. Go figure.

I don't haggle per se, but I definitely shop around online before buying a truck or car. I find what I am looking for and then reach out to dealerships asking for their best price and then once I get the best price, I send a text/email with the quote that has the best price to the other dealerships and then keep getting the best "new" quote and send that to all the ones that were above that quote and see if they can beat it, which the usually do. Repeat process until I get the best possible price at a dealership for the vehicle I am looking for.

I hate doing stupid things like that but…I guess not many people “game” their business model like that, or else it would be a losing money business model. You would think they would at least put some early termination clauses in the financial T&C’s.

You really want to piss them off? When I bought my truck in June, they had it marked $14,000 below sticker. I told them I’d trade my truck in. I signed an agreement to their price of the truck, but when they brought the agreement for the trade in, I reneged on trading it in. The finance guy said that price was with trade in. I said nope, I read the fine print, that was sales price. He walked off, didn’t see him for an hour.
Now to be fair, the internet ad did say that price was with trade in, but the agreement I signed stated nothing of the fact, so I got one over on them, much like they always do on buyers.
I don’t negotiate, I find what I want at a price I’m willing to pay and I buy it, I don’t have time to listen to their [censored].

When they introduce financing and trade in, they now have a 3 piece shell game they can play.

Yep, lots of great advice to be found here. Good luck, and I don't envy you. I HAAATE the stereotypical dealership song & dance. (And like BIL said - because I remember, i will never set foot in another Clay Cooley dealership for any reason.)
My advice: Walk away at least once.
(Like BrotherinLaw said) if they have to go talk to their manager - walk. If they say any nonsense like "this is below our cost" - walk. Lowball on a trade-in - walk. Excessive tacked-on fees - walk Frankly, no matter how good a deal they make you - walk.
It never ceases to amaze my wife that either the sales manager or the finance manager always call with better deals, sometimes before we're a block away. I've walked offers on 4 trucks, 5 SUV's, a sedan, and a Can-Am Defender HD10...and they ALL called with better deals. (Well, all but one Cadillac dealership in Frisco, but I think we got profiled coming in wearing beat up jeans & boots with horse poo on 'em.)
Best wishes on your purchase/s.

Walk in the door and tell them what you want your monthly payment to be. You joking right? That’s funny, I hate when they say that, “how much a month you want to spend”.

Research the hell out of what you want to buy. Look for the best deal you can find on exactly what you want. Sell your vehicle private party...do not trade it in. Walk on the lot when you've found the vehicle you want to buy...never speak of paying cash for a vehicle when they ask.. and they will you tell them you definitely want to look at financing options. When the sales man walks out you can take one of two routes, 1.) mess around with them for 2 hours haggling over price waiting while they drink coffee and talk about how Dak threw an interception in the 4th to lose the game in the back office then finally come to a price and go see the finance guy or 2.) when the salesman walks out tell him you will only deal the person who has the authority to accept or decline offers and if that’s not him point you in his or her direction. Now after you choose your option and settle on a price go into the finance department and have them run the numbers blah blah blah....get an agreed upon TTL price, tell them you've changed your mind and are going to pay cash, write the check have them call your bank to verify funds and drive away.
