I’d like to know the best hamburger you ever ate. Specifically, I would like to know (with as much detail as you will ) specifically what made the hamburger appealing to you.

90%venison, 10% brisket fat. a little over 1/3 lb patty, heavily seasoned, cooked on the cool side of Medium over a mesquite fire. Toasted bun and all the normal veggies with Mustard and a grilled jalapeno on the side. Why was it appelaing? JUICY.

Maybe nostalgia, maybe the time, maybe the vibe…..1975.
But the Old Timer at the original Chili’s on Greenville Avenue in Dallas was the best I ever ate…it was simple….good meat, lettuce tomato, pickle, onions, and yellow mustard on a poppyseed bun. With great fries.
That Chili’s was the best Chili’s there ever was. All of the burgers on the menu knew they were good at what they were!

Hard to single out. When Cheddars first opened they had a killer burger. It was a 1/2 lb medium rare with some really great onion rings. Al's hamburgers was really good when they were in the old drive-in. It was just a thin patty (always got double meat) that was cooked hot and fast. It had a good crunch to it on the edges. Woody's in Mineral Wells back in the 70's. Haven't been there in ages. Just a good ol greasy burger.

Now, the Dairy Mart in Mineral Wells makes a burger the way they should be made.

Kincaids back in the 80's when you still ate on top of the store shelves. My current favorite is Tommy's on Camp Bowie.

Anybody tried Texas Tornado in Stafford? To me they’re like the old drugstore corner in Casa View Dallas (1950-1960) with heat. 1/4 pound, greasy good. And not too much and all fresh. Cooked on a griddle.

Mine was a a Chili’s Trip, fries and a bunch of napkins. And iced mug of beer or two of course.
Unluckily a true story. In early 70s. I worked at a CPA firm in Dallas. An attorney friend wanted some free accounting work in regard to his client that paid in stock. Couldn’t pay cash yet. Just couldn’t do at the time. Bum axe, It was Chili’s on Greenville.

Best store bought burger was at Owl Drug Store in Coleman, Tx. Old time drug store with an old style soda fountain like you hear about back in the old days. Their burger was made with fresh ground meat by hand, good and greasy. Recently switched to frozen patties and it'll never be the same. Otherwise best burger "I" ever made was with ground meat from the old butcher counter at the Santa Anna grocery store in Santa Anna, Tx. Best known for hand cutting your ribeye steaks from the full rack as you watched, to your own thickness. They used the trimmings from their hand cut ribeye racks and sirloins to make their own ground meat. That made the best burgers I've ever tasted. Cooked to just medium with still a little pink, melted in your mouth. Didn't even taste like hamburger.

I'm not a big hamburger guy, but my wife and mom won't let me get through Weatherford without stopping at Antebellum Ale House to get a burger from the food trailer out front. They're the old fashioned griddle style that the bun seems as greasy as the patty.

This came up in another forum, and it brought back some memories-
The South End grocery in Sherman, TX. I think it was on Lamar. No seating, just a meat counter and a griddle. My dad and I would go and get a few burgers, share a bag of Cheetos and drink canned soda. We’d eat in his truck across the street under a big oak tree. They used to do a standing multi-hundred burger order for TI every Friday. Burgers were $1.50 and cheeseburgers were $2. Good memories.

Back in the 90's there used to be a gas station/store/cafe in Westbrook west of Colorado City on north side of I20. The lady would hand pat the hamburger and if you wanted cheese she would cut two slices of cheddar. It was a thick juicy burger which was pretty dang tasty after fishing all day at Champion or C City lakes.

I don't know if it is the best ever, but we like to get Beck's Prime in North Dallas. I specifically order the Bill's Burger, which is a 1/2 pound of Angus with the following: Prime sauce, topped with sautéed onions, cheddar cheese, Applewood bacon, jalapeños, and lettuce on a fresh baked egg bun. Pretty delicious, but it is a $15 burger which seems to be more the norm these days. Some places are over $20, which is ridiculous.

I've had some memorably tasty ones that were probably more because I was very hungry, like an Arby's Big Game Burger in Cheek, TX after a long morning of dove hunting, or a Burger King double cheeseburger in Watertown, NY after a long day of fishing. For memorable ones not hungry some that spring to mind are the Gunslinger at the OST in Bandera, the Crazy Burger at JLB in Houston, and if it counts, the pljeskavica at Cafe Adel in Houston.

Go to the Apple Store in Medina, much better than OST. But OST has a fine breakfast.

I dunno if they have them in Texas, but the Papa Burger at A&W along with a cone-shaped quart carton of A&W root beer and their onion rings was difficult to surpass. 1960s.
