How long should they last?

We buy our vehicles batteries from Sams club, the one in my F150 is a Duracell.

Went out to start my truck and it was deader than a door nail, just bought the last one 7/29/2022
Fortunately it has a 3 year full replacement warranty, I do very little driving and you think it would last longer than 2 years.

Since they are replacing it for free I am going to stick with Sams, if not what battery would you recommend?

I went 7 years on AGM premium interstate. Now running NAPA agm, because Interstate was on national back order.

Weight tells you a lot about a battery

Wal-Mart EverStart batteries are good also easy to replace if needed. I went to them after Sears closed.

I usually get 3-4 years out of a vehicle battery. The hot summer and cold winters usually will kill batteries when they get worn out. I try to get a higher end battery with a warranty. I used to buy the cheaper batteries, until I had issues with short life span and being stranded in the middle of no where. The few dollars you save wasn't worth the added problems and shorter life span.

I went away from Interstate as I had two die in less than 3 years each. One of them was the last of the old 'month' batteries; it was a 65 month. I didn't think 33 cut it.

I've bought three 3-year batteries from Autozone since then; one they replaced at the 32mo mark under warranty (it would start the truck but had a bad cell that threw off the electronics in the vehicle). The other two are still fine. I just put a NAPA AGM 3-year in my Ford; we'll see how it lives.

From what I've seen talking to other people, batteries tend to suck these days, no matter what you buy.

Very little driving is the worst thing for a battery. I use Interstate myself and have not been disappointed. About mid winter I will hook up a charger on both tractors. I only have to put a charge on them once a winter though.

I actually had to run to O'Reilly's this morning and grab a batter for my wife's car. Her other battery was dated 7/2020 so exactly 4 years out of it. I guess I haven't bought a battery in a while, couldn't believe this thing was $265 then minus $22 for core charge.

All batteries suck now. A jump pack is a must have.

Batteries were under $100-150 not that long ago. Is this related to the lead plants shutting down a while back? It's not like battery tech suddenly changed.

I got in the habit of buying batteries from autozone quite a few years ago because if my wife was traveling, she could visit one and they would test or replace the battery and she wouldn’t have to worry about it. I also got into the habit of replacing mine every 4 years because inevitably it would go out at the most inconvenient time. I just figured that it wasn’t worth a few dollars to stretch it out.

There’s basically only three manufacturers of US vehicle batteries. Johnson Controls makes Duralast, Diehard, Kirkland, Motorcraft, and Interstate. If I can’t get an Interstate for some reason, if possible I go with anything made by Johnson Controls.

When it comes to any battery larger than your thumb, Durcell is crap. Found out the hard way and won't buy their products again.

Just replaced my battery on my kubota tractor. It lasted 9 years. The last 2 years I had been charging it every time I needed to start it. I’ve had my Dodge 2500/ 5.9 for 21years and on my 3rd set of batteries. I’ve got 7 years out of all 3 sets. Probably have to get 2 more this winter based on past results.

On my diesel SD’s pretty consistent every 3 years, I replace them both regardless.

My experience with Autozone batteries too, 3-4 years. Texas weather season extremes are tough on batteries.

Most of my vehicle batteries last about 3, if lucky 4 years, my old international 966 with the long narrow six volt twin batteries are only lasting two years any more if I’m lucky. That being said, bought my kabota ztr may of 2015, battery still going strong!

Just replaced the two on my diesel. They were continental batteries and they lasted 4 years and 10 months.
Cost was $250 for both installed, replaced with the same batteries.

Absolutely. I have one in the back floorboard at all times. I believe the auto on/off is a main contributor. I recently discovered the dash button to turn that damn thing off…after almost 6 years and 2 replacement batteries.

We normally run Walmart batteries most of the time but on occasion buy Oreillys but I keep a couple Nocco GBX 155’s on hand somewhere close by to jump diesel engines off when they take a dump, everyone needs a solid jumper that will fire up whatever their vehicle is.

I have one of those rather small Noco Jumpers. I hadn’t used it, but the UPS diesel delivery truck died in the front of my house a while back. The driver was a nice guy, but I didn’t want to feed him and let him stay overnight. I went and got that little Noco jumper, thinking no way would this thing crank over his diesel. It fired that thing easily. I was really surprised, but it travels with the diesel Sprinter Van from now on.

100% agree with AGMs. I run the Odyssey AGMs in my F250.

Johnson Controls sold their battery manufacturing few years ago, the new company is Clarios and I believe they are manufacturing the Die-Hard brand, among others. The Die-Hard brand is owned by Advanced Auto.
