Keep at it Sir!
We have 3000+ acre game ranch (Khumba Game Ranch) over here and our accommodations are very good for a remote bush camp, not 5 star, but very comfortable for up to 8 people. I'm hunting with the same PH that I've hunted with for the past 20 years and he and his wife are FANTASTIC cooks. Most meals are cooked over coals at an open fire. So far we've ate Buff, Eland and Wildebeest with Bushpig and Impala on the menu before we leave.

Gotta admit... as layman I would have thought one would need a bigger, more powerful cartridge than a 358 win. Looks like a great adventure. Nice animals. good on you!!!

Overall a pretty slow day, but one of the other guys had good success with a nice Nyala bull. I shot another Warthog in the morning and another Baboon late afternoon. Both DRT with the 125gr TXC (this is not a production bullet and won't be for sale due to excessive reduction of powder capacity).

None of us had any success on Wed, but I had a pretty good day yesterday. I got a decent old Impala ram (not the one I wanted due to a miscommunication between me and the PH) and a really good Zebra stallion. Impala ran 15yds and the Zebra ran 75yds, both shot with the 300 HAM'R 125gr TCC. The base of the bullet fully penetrated the Zebra on the broadside shot! 3 more hunting days to go before we head home on Monday.

I really like the angular look of those impala horns. Nice Job. That CC base completely penetrating a zebra is amazing.

Pretty slow day yesterday due to a cold front that came through. African game just doesn't move when it's cold. But I still got a couple more Baboons late in the day on the ranch. Both DRT with the 125gr TXC The other guys went to town to the bar and James and Jeremy hurt themselves pretty good !!!

Well the hunt is over and we're all back in camp. I finished out the hunt with a nice Golden Wildebeest shot with the 125gr TXC from 100yds for a total of 17 animals total. All but the Buff were taken with the 300 HAM'R and none required a second shot. The other guys also had a good hunt, unfortunately none were using the HAM'R. But they all used Lehigh bullets with good success and we all recovered every animal shot. Brodie: Blessbuck, Eland, Kudu, Impala and Wildebeest James: Buff, Nyala and Waterbuck Jeremy: Impala, Nyala, Sable, Warthog and Wildebeest Jerry: Buff, Kudu, Sable and Wildebeest

Just joined this forum because of this thread. I snagged an 8" barrel that was on clearance for a personal defense build.
Got the barrel in and switched my "Dirty Beaver" from 300AAC to 300 HAM'R. Ran like a champ with the 125gr TNT rounds. Much happy. Need to find out what the best HD round is for this caliber.

What OAL were you ham'r loads set to for bolt gun use? The bullets I used on the hunt were all designed for a 2.250" OAL. We are looking into making a couple of SPB (Special Purpose Bullet) bullets specifically for bolt guns that have long mag boxes to optimize powder capacity. I actually started testing these the week before I left for Africa.

I have a 16" Hamr that I love... now considering building a smaller 12" SBR for stalking in heavy brush... I am toying with a 12" 6.5 Grendel or a 12" 300 Hamr..... Can anyone chime in about pro's/ cons of a 12" Barrel Hamr vs Grendel? Maybe one is better than the other with velocities with 12" barrel... etc.... Most of my hunting is 50-100 yards in thick jungle like terrain

I'm curious why you wouldn't recommend the 95gr CC for HD out of an 8" barrel? The 95gr is a discontinued bullet. When the current stock is gone, they're gone.

Most of my hunting is 50-100 yards in thick jungle like terrain There are no bullets that are impervious to brush and wood. I think bigger/heavier bullets are more tolerant of light brush but I'd hate to have to prove it. The 12" Grendel will certainly do the job. But my choice would be the 11.3" Ham'r. With the factory 130gr round nose the 18" MV is about 2,500 fps. With my 11.3" the same ammo does 2,330 fps in my chrono. That's pretty good and with a well proven load. Mostly.... avoid shooting thru brush as much as possible IMO.
