Hello everyone - I'm starting to look into getting a new .22 rifle and wanted to get some opinions from the THF.

Wanting something supremely accurate from 25 to 75 yards. Beyond that is a welcomed bonus. Main use would be small game hunting and general target practice.

Would love to hear recommendations on great ammo you've had consistency with, also.

Thanks, in advance!

10/22. Multiple factory variations or build one yourself.

CZ 457, Bergara BMR and Tikka 1x are all quality also. Lots of add ons available for the 457, The Bergara works off of a Rem 700 style. Good luck.

What is your price range?

For $259 at Cabelas I picked up a Savage MKII FVSR. Very accurate especially considering the price. Outdoor life did an article on best .22 rifles for 2024, the Savage was 2nd most accurate losing by only hundreths of an inch to a rifle costing ten times as much. It shot 5 shot average group size of 3/4" at 100 yards. It's downfall is crappy magazines, but there are some better ones that can be bought with an all welded design..

If you want something a bit nicer, the Ruger Precision Rimfire is a good choice, it uses 10-22 magazines. Priced around $500 or less.

The Begara B14 trainer is about $1,100, very high quality, feels like a .308.

Couple years ago I pickup a Ruger American in 22, for the grandson. I put a Burris rim fire 3x9 on the rifle. The dang thing turned out to be a tack driver. It out shoot my Ruger 77/22 I’ve had for years.

picked up the compact one for my middle kid many years ago. thicker bull barrel on it, Fiber optic open sights.

I love that dang thing even though I don't like the Ruger American Rifles. Great all around .22.

I also like my 10/22 ( regular carbine model with a Leupold 2x7 rimfire scope on top ) and my Henry .22 Lever action .

For your purpose and since “supremely accurate” hasn’t been defined, find a used 10/22, swap the barrel out for a Green Mountain barrel, and go from there. Shilen and Kidd are tops for 10/22 barrels but the Green Mountain is less expensive and easily minute of critter at the distances you mention. And don’t go cheap on the glass just cuz it’s a .22.

As for ammunition, the only way to get really good ammo is to lot test and purchase as much as you can afford of the best. Other than that, SK, Lapua, Eley, Wolf and a couple others offer match grade ammo. CCI Standard Velocity is known to be really good “most of the time” but will give you flyers. If it were just critters I would probably stay with the CCI since I’d have a quick follow up shot with the 10/22.

I have a CZ 513...the guts of a 452 in a plain jane wrapper... I've killed everything I shot at with it...I just like my stainless 10/22 for ease of care...$325, and I could probably meet you in Katy with it in the next week or so. Dovetailed receiver for mounting a scope, but the open sights work fine for me..."Where'd you learn to shoot? Boy Scouts, sir."

A 10/22 can be left stock and be a good hunting rifle but can be easily customized to anything you want. They own that 22 world.

I went for a Tikka T1X. I wanted a light rifle that was very accurate, and thenTikka filled the bill.

BigFitz recommended the Bergera BMR steel barrel. I've been happy with mine...for the money, pretty hard to beat.

I have an old 10/22 been a great gun. Accurate for my needs. Recently got a Savage FVSR. Put a can on it and it is deadly and quiet at 50 yards. From squirrels to pigs.

Recommend CCI Standard Velocity for ammo. It’s very accurate and reasonably priced compared to match ammo.

I have Bergara BXR steel which is 10/22 clone. It’s accurate and a lot of fun. I also have a Steyr Zephyr bolt action which is very accurate but pricey for a 22.

There was a good deal on here a day or two ago: 10/22 with a custom barrel paired with a nice Leupold 5-20 (I think) variable.

being a successful podcaster, you should have a LARGE Budget lol444

1. BIG BUCKS: Vudoo, RimX, Volquartsen, Magnum Reasearch, Cool Guy Guns (KIDD), Styer Zepher, Fierce, Anschutz, Cooper,
2. Middle bucks: CZ 457, Bergara, Springfield,
3. Salvage

Watch the weights, Bergara HMR is too heavy for all around use. BTW, if you buy a Springfield Waypoint CENTERFIRE, you get one of their rimfires FREE.

CZ 457 Lux. Also have a 10/22, but much prefer the CZ. I just use bulk ammo and it all shoots well with a rimfire Leupold 3x9 scope.

Pretty hard to go wrong with any of the CZ's.
