I know it gets mixed reviews, but what do they do well for apps, sides, entrees and desserts?

Never paid much attention to anything but the steak.

Hey Bill!
Been eating at Perini's for years (since we got into this part of the world). Two sub-par experiences in all that time...
Appetizers: jalapeno poppers or the fried quail legs
Sides: either the Zucchini Perini or the green chile hominy
Entrees: there's only one for me really, the peppered strip (rare, of course).
Salad: the chopped bleu cheese
Dessert: Seriously? I SELDOM have room but if I did, the Strawberry shortcake (old school and wonderful!).

Thanks Bee! That's a great list you suggested, and no -- I hardly ever have room for dessert any more. Just thought I would ask "for the record."

The green chile hominy is my favorite side, and don't sleep on the cheeseburger. Their cheeseburger is incredible.

It has moved up to my must list. Hey, if my dinner guest doesn't want beef, are the cajun catfish good?

Ya'll remember I went there the night before my dove hunt last September.
First, try to be seated in a "cool" part of the restaurant. The section I was in had 1 wobbly azz fan which blew hot air.
Steak was meh as were my apps. Had much better.
Then I was sick for 3 days.
Only good thing is they served Coors Banquet in bottles.
YMMV (hopefully)

Cannot say I ever had anything bad there, all has been good but haven't been in a long time but would definitely go again if in the area.
Buzz, did you eat an Allsup's burrito on the drive out?

Except for the quail, this is exactly how you need to order. Maybe split the steak with someone and absolutely order the strawberry shortcake. I get the hominy over ZP since my wife has the recipe and it makes a regular appearance at home.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience there, Buzz. Like I said, I've had TWO less-than-wonderful experiences there over about 17 years...so I know that it CAN happen.
Tell you what: if you'll give 'em another chance, let me know when you're headed this direction and I'll buy your dinner there (including a double Blanton's to settle the dust beforehand).
And, boy, you're lucky you didn't go BEFORE they had any air conditioning at all! That's a relatively new addition...

Hoping to take my New Mexico honey there this Sunday and will report. I am optimistic. I don't know if Tom hangs around much any more, but I have heard he is pretty savvy about Buffalo Gap history -- and my great-grandparents were married there in September of 1880.

I have had Family in Buffalo Gap, Lawn and Abilene for over a 100 years.
I love Perinis and Tom is a solid man. Have eaten there more times than I can count. 80% hit!

Nice place to eat, in the cooler part of the year. Summertime is a challenge, no doubt! And SuperDuty, Tom IS a genuinely nice guy. Bill, are you going for the Sunday buffet or ordering off the menu? I’ve done both and prefer the menu. Keeping food on a buffet table is a challenge no one can overcome!

you're on but only if I can buy your dinner and a double Blantons Can’t argue with a gentlemanly offer like that. Done! Whistle at me when you know you’re gonna be around here and we’ll make it happen!

It was in the Dallas Morning News rag. Name was Perini and he was from Buffalo Gap. The Obit was very short, didn't mention the restaurant. Maybe a relative. Think if it was the main Steakhouse owner, the Obit would have been longer and mention the steakhouse.

Possibly Tom’s brother? He and Tom sure have a similar look…

I ate at Perini's once, not that impressed for the price. I've had much better steaks at Joe Allens and Beehive.
