Do it, you'll be satisfied.

In 1981 I had a girl friend give this exact knife. It sits in the barn as an emergency knife or skinning knife when needed. I haven't used it in ten plus years. Early this summer I was cleaning up the work bench. One of the boys left it out on the bench out of it's sheath. I went to put it back in. I decided to run my finger across it to checked to see how sharp it was. It was so dull it wouldn't cut hot butter. I don't think any of the boys ever tried to sharpen it. I told my oldest to take it home and sharpen it. He took it to his local Ace Hardware where they have an automated knife sharpener. He brought it back and said it's sharpened. Wow, he wasn't lying. I think the last time it was this sharp was when I brought it home. No idea how this sharpener works but it worked great on this knife. I did a slow draw through a piece of paper and it cut sweet!

Get the details/spec's on how it was sharpened, please.

I did a search on Ace Hardware knife sharpening. They use a patent knife sharper called Reshape. I think it's only available at Ace Hardware. I went to their website and attached a video they had. My son said he paid $6.99 to have it sharpened. Watching the video it's an interesting process. It's does not do serrated knives. From my one knife my son had done it worked really well. I'm sure those who sharpen their own knives might have a mini stroke watching.

I know a guy that sharpens a ton of knives as a semi business. Hes mostly retired. He sharpens all the knives for Greenberg Turkeys and its an ongoing thing for awhile to keep em sharp. He takes a bunch to sharpen and by the time he gets em back they have another batch for him to do. He sharpens all kinds of stuff, not just knives. I know that he uses some type of machine.
And, yes, all the knife sharpening aficionado's will blow a gasket.

I have my kitchen knives sharpened JS Sharpening in Wichita Falls. Joel does a great job. If I'm in the area I use his drop box in front of the house. He calls to tell me when they're done and how much. When I let him know I'm coming he leaves then in the drop box with an old zippered bank bag for me to leave payment. You can also send your knives to him.

Nothing wrong with that!
