Matters ZERO which one to me. All the same. Both of the cab-off oil leakers were fairly new 23-24 models. This one is a 2024 with 2K miles. Wish I'd have snapped a pic with the rear cover off so y'all could see the timing belt running in oil.

Do you think gm will get out of the cylinder deactivation BS? Seems it has been their MANOR weak point for as long as they have had it.

My GAWD!!!! I all see is the beginning of a bunch of rattles that will never go away eek2

I had one of my 2006 F250 6.0's head studs replaced and purposely found a guy who would do it without pulling the cab...I don't see anything positive from pulling a cab off a chassis.

Also, looks like a big job GG...Y U K! It looks like at least 6 cab connection points and who knows how many wiring harnesses that have to come apart of that mess.

I really like the idea of the little diesels and was disappointed when Ford went to the hybrid (powerboost) over those...government oversight and interference killed it. bang

The oil leaks don't seem to be prominent.

I'd be willing to bet for every problem like that, there are thousands on the road with no problems at all. They still sell really well.

I have a 2023 duramax 3.0 lzo and love it, but I'm not sure if I'll keep it as long as originally planned.

I've had 2 friends, both with 3.0 lm2 motors have issues recently. One hit 150k and had a warning light to change belt. The other hit 126k and the same light came on. These are 2020 and 2021 models. The cheapest either of them has been quoted to change the belt is 8k...

Definitely has me rethinking how long I'll keep mine

The "old" engine belt is supposed to be good til 200k as well according to GM. Does the truck go into "limp" mode when the light comes on or what?

It's not the AFM design that causes the issues, it's bad metal in bad parts. It's also the EPA taking out many of the good engine oil ingredients around 2009-2010. Some people read on the internet or experience cam/lifter issues themselves then throw a blanket over LS/LT engines as valvetrain failure-prone when in fact there have been about 5-7 different types of failures since 1999. Kinda like the 700R4/4L60E transmissions. GM made them forever and used them in millions of vehicles. They are known to be failure prone but there's 8+ versions of the transmission because every time a weakness was found, it was fixed in the design causing a new weak point to show. A 4L70E from 2010 is quite a bit different than a 700R4 from 1984. AFM is a EPA "required" invention due to CAFE. All manufacturers have some sort of AFM and most have issues with them.

This is true. I have said the same. But they sell so well GM has stopped making them. At least the extremely hard to access parts are not common failures...starter and radiator.

The cab was off on every truck one time before and put on by union people without much give-a-crap. There is no benefit from bending over and into an engine bay. With each new body style, GM has lowered the engine and moved it farther to the rear, under the windshield.

If anyone wants to know for sure on this particular vehicle, it's easier to pull the cab to access anything in the cooling stack or the front of the engine than to work from the top. Example: It's quicker to pull the cab to change a radiator on these trucks than to do it from the front and top. On a gas V8 2019-2024, it's a push on time for an engine swap to take the cab off or the entire front end. On a diesel, the cab method is quicker. Warranty rates pay the technician about 60% of what customer pay labor time guides show. Warranty labor on a 3.0L radiator is about 8 hours. Taking the cab off takes an hour as does putting it back...plus the time to swap the radiator while you can see it. It's quicker to pull a cab for a transmission swap (why this one is off, transmission in the way of the rear main seal housing that was puking at 2K miles) on one of these because of the nearly impossible to remove starter that has to come off to get to the torque converter bolts.

I can do anything the UAW guy can but he cannot do what I do.

My dad’s 2021 leaked oil like that all over my driveway. Then the timing belt light came on as stated at 150K.

Yep, LZ0 is in the silverado. Looks like the LZ0 will gonna carry on. It's only 2 years old.

Not a single issue here on the engine in the full size SUV I can remember but the trucks have had some weird and very difficult issues to repair.

I'm probably only going to run the 3.0 diesel for a few years and then go back to a 5.3 . I don't put very many miles on one . My 2020 only had 19,000 miles on it
I'm 8 to 13 miles from any town . So i don't go grad burgers much

With the 100k warranty I'll probably run mine that long. Toyota will probably have their problems lined out with the Tundra by then.

If you are towing it uses alot more than if you're not. In a normal driving environment I use about a gallon of DEF for every 2000 miles driven. DEF is $8 per 2.5 gallon jug at Wally World.

just put the first DEF in our '24 High Country Tahoe 3.0 this past weekend. gauge showed about 1/3 full, put in one 2.5 gallon from Walmart brought it up to almost full. I think we are at about 2600 miles and it showed 1/2 full when we purchased. Only towing so far was our wake boat about 14 miles, towed like a charm.

Love my '22 GMC with the 3.0. Came from a 6.6. Tows all I need it to, and gets great mileage doing it. Unfortunately, I have had a lot of front end problems, but the engine has been great (knock on wood)
