https://about.basspro.com/newsroom/...ommitment-to-customers-and-conservation/Stuttgart, Ark. (May 17, 2024) – Mack’s Prairie Wings and Bass Pro Shops announced today a new partnership between the iconic outdoor brands. Founded in 1944, Mack’s Prairie Wings is America’s Premier Waterfowl Outfitter based in Stuttgart, Arkansas, revered as the duck capital of the world.
The driving force behind the partnership is the strikingly similar history and passion of the companies. Both entities were founded by visionaries passionate about the great outdoors. Noted conservationist and Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris and Mack’s Prairie Wings founder M.T. “Mack” McCollum, and his son Marion McCollum, started their shops from humble beginnings and grew their businesses to become the iconic brands trusted by sportsmen worldwide. I am not a fan of BPS in general. Cabelas stinks since the merger. I don’t see Mack’s and BPS merging as a good thing either.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

Always liked Mack’s, the catalog that used to come in the mail, online shopping, and the store itself. But, I can’t see merging being a good thing, never is. Competition is a good thing, not just for pricing.

well history shows this will not be good and Mack's will turn into mostly another clothier just like the downfall of Cabellas

I'm wondering, buy a gun from Macks ships free to BP or Cabelas free back ground check? This might make it worth while. So it will never happen.

Wherever Redhead brand shows up, it appears to me the general quality of the other offered drop. Those top end selections dwindle so more redhead is sold. No hard evidence of this, just my observation. You can still get some quality clothes at Cabelas but the selection seems to have been crowded out by redhead.
I'm not as excited to go to Cabelas as I used to be. I'll go to BPS for fishing gear but not much else.
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

I also worry about if Scheel's can remain independent from Johnny Morris. They too are employee "owned" like Cabela's in the past. Just a matter of time I'm afraid.

I agree, gonna suck if they merged I don't shop bps/cabellas near as much since the merger. I don’t see any incentive for Mack’s to carry Red Head gear. It’s not great and it’s already extremely easy to find in BPS/Cabelas and online.

BPS is hard headed with that Red Head gear, it is like they bought Cabelas just so they could ram that Red Head gear down everyone's throat. It's almost like they are jealous, it sure does not make business sense. They should be merging the companies and taking the best of each.

That’s my biggest issue. I think I have one piece of red head gear and I haven’t worn it in 8+ years. If this has an affect on other manufacturers in the duck hunting space, that’s really going to suck.

yrs. ago (1985 or so) I broke down and bought a down hunting pants/coat combo, was about 500.00 at the time. our camps were all above 9,000' wore out the pants after about 15 yrs but still have the coat, got thru the freeze of 21 sleeping in it (no propane and power off/on bs). red head used to be good stuff, now not so much but I still wear their heavy socks in winter.

I didn’t realize BPS, and Red Head has been around for so long. I bought some red head stuff about 15 or 20 years ago thinking it was good stuff, ended up throwing it away or giving it to charity.

I love having only the illusion of choice. At the end of the day all it boils down to is more money going in fewer pockets.

Cabela's went downhill long before the BP acquisition. They overbuilt locations and pushed out name brand companies to bring in house brand items at higher margins. I couldn't tell you how many people I send elsewhere to buy what they wanted because we dropped their products. Then one Dick passed, it was a no brainer for Jim to sell.

I strongly believe Cabela's went downhill AFTER the BP merger. Cabela's lifetime warranty vanished, knowledgeable sale staff replaced by anyone with a pulse, quality Cabela's branded gear became garbage, and good sale prices seem to have all but vanished...all of this after the merger. It used to be my go-to store and I now I haven't bought anything from there in well over a year and only a handful of times over the last 5 years.

I shop at Cabela’s/BPS all the time, but never spend a penny there because I got so many Cabela’s points. I never buy the redhead crap tho. I like their waders.

BPS/Cabelas had to have access to a brand that everyone didn't recognize as trash. Seems MPW took the bait.

I hope it doesn't go the way that Herter's went after they were bought out. That one still ticks me off. I miss getting the Herter's catalog and keeping it in the bathroom as mandatory reading pre-cell phone era.

There's a blast from the past. I remember my dad and I ordering rod blanks and building materials off Herters. Some of there stuff was good. Some was not so good. But the descriptions in the catalogue were priceless.

jnd, I grew up hunting diver ducks on the upper Mississippi river. My family swore by Herters foam decoys. I still use them once in a while down here. I wish I had the spread my uncles had back in the 80's. That being said, if anyone reading this has any Herters foam decoys, I'll buy them!
