I want 110+ club head speed on the regular, and 160 ball speed. I'm probably gonna have to stretch and train a little bit to get there controlled.

10-4, gets harder with age and health challenges, take my word. 4 years ago before meniscus injury was still pushing it 112-115, ballspeeds of 160-166 and carry of 285-295+; sadly, probably don't have that anymore consistently.

Yeah, I regret taking a 17 year break. My best years are behind me physically, but I'll see what I can make out of what I have left.

Actually if I could get 285 in the fairway every time, I would be one happy camper

The new clubs should help me out greatly. I would over draw my irons because my shafts were too lite, these I just pull the trigger and the swing takes care of itself.

Quit screwing around with club fitting and take some short game and putting lessons from someone who knows what they're doing. You should instantly shave a few strokes off your game.

This guy.....

Why would anyone take advice from you?

You're right......a great short game is a stupid idea. No wonder you suck at everything you do.

After a forty year layoff I am picking it back up. Got a new set of irons today, Taylormade Qi. They felt really good at the range. Man the technology has changed a lot in 40 years.

I had a 45 year lay off ... from birth until 2019 when I started playing. My 7I distance is about the same but there's no way in heck I'm getting a 3W 260 unless it's off a tee with a tailwind. My new driver shaft immediately raised the launch angle enough I had to reset the head from draw/+2 to stated/draw. Irons and wedges are next for me as all my other stuff is three years of age or newer (all bought second hand but new condition). Irons are from 2014 and I would like a real fitting and new stuff when I get my recently enlarged quarterly bonus. I have a professional lesson coming up. Trying to decide what to work on...

Pass the gravy.

Technology in these clubs are outrageous. I hit the Mizuno 245 7 iron over 200, with a smooth swing.

Some new tech in your bag should help out greatly.

I don’t disagree with this, however most of the big name club makers have paired their new tech with significantly stronger lofts. PW lofts used to be 46-48. Now some are 42-44. This makes (at least in my case) big gaps between PW and gap. I got my current set of irons 6 years ago and put “old school lofts” in them. The lower your hdcp gets, the more you’ll want consistent distances and 8-12 yds between clubs over hitting them farther. Just my opinion. Have fun, drink beer and PLAY FAST!

Yeah, this is why I went with the Ping I230s. I called my guy and switched from the ZX7s. I hit both great but the pings landed steeper and stopped faster. Accuracy, and less deviation was what i was after, so loft, launch peak, height, back spin, and a steep descent were the most important. The 7 iron with the ping rolled out 6 yards, while the Srixon rolled out 10. Thats pretty much what did it for me. I didnt want those 15 yrd fliers, or those shots thatnroll off the green. the pings aren't real jacked when it comes to loft. The I230s PW is lofted at 45.

Lol, yeah me too......they were ordered, and paid for.... I went with the Srixons because I could combo the ZX5 3 iron into the set. But the more I thought about it the more I thought how many times I actually use my 3 iron in a round......I hit both great, it's just the Ping had more carry and more stopping power, less rollout. Both felt great coming off the head, Srixon wins with an edge over the pings in the feel department they just felt so soft. The Ping won out everywhere else except for the blending of sets.

Blue current set

Orange Ping

Purple ZX7

Pink 243

Same order for the numbers. You can see how bad my current irons play bang

Hopefully someone that will work with your basic swing and not try to have you swing as they may. Not quite like a fingerprint but most folks have a swing move unique to himself/herself, the fundamentals being taught and emphasized are the keys..

If you have a pretty good swing it's a lot easier to fix things here and there, but if you need a rebuild it can take time. You will get worse before you get better.

I went from mid 80s to 90 plus for a year after my swing change. Fixing my over the top move was a real journey.

Not too worried about that as I want the hole in my distances fixed first. That would mean attempting what I used to avoid and that will not raise the average much if any.

Had it going good yesterday at Trophy Club CC, Whitworth course before the rain deluge hit us on #14. Was 3 over with two birdies and the skies opened up and dumped buckets of rain, lots of lightning and thunder preceeded it. Banged the Ping G425 pretty good, lots of straight, 280-300 yard drives.

Well we almost died today (sort of) when the weather took a bad turn. I posted a video on my second FB page (the one for sports equipment repairs) from the cart barn. Likely 60-70 MPH winds as we saw we looked like a funnel not quite sitting down SW of Lindsay.

Came in second place with a -6 66 at Lantana. CPO and actually probably too wet to be on. Wanna go back when it's drier.

My go to last few years has been the Srixon Star XV. I prefer the higher launch characteristics of it and still plenty softness to putt with and chip and pitching of short game. Used to get them for about $44.99++ per dozen on sale but now they are mostly $50-55 a box.

I'm also always a sucker for Pro V1s and Pro V1xs and TaylorMade TP5s and TP5xs, especially if on discount. All are quality golf balls.

When you could still get them I was using ... don't laugh because they're better than decent but cheap ... Kirkland Signatures Series 2 (do not get the first version in the green box) urethane 3-piece golf balls. Now that they have dried up (possibly being sued for copying another brand), I use Vice balls. Of the premium priced brands, I prefer the TP5.
