With the laundry list of offenses, I say prosecute the guys. But the trophy aspect shouldn't influence the sentence.

The value of the "property" (and deer are state property in the sense that restitution is required for their value) directly impacts the seriousness of the charges and sentencing. He sold the rack for part of the $20,000 that he received if I am reading it correctly. A spike is not as valuable so his charges and sentencing should reflect that trophy value.

He sold it for $20,000 and I think his sentence should reflect that. If he can't pay it in money, pay it in time spent.

triple what he sold it for and give him 5 yrs. to pay off, or go to jail, don't pass go and for damn sure don't collect 200.00. 1 yr. for ea. 1,000.00 he sold it for.

send a msg to others.

He should do time. He stole from somebody else and diminished that persons potential gene pool.

He shot a deer people. I did not look up the offenders past. Give em some fines and community service that’s serious enough to get their attention hopefully, given that these were first offenses. He did not steal a deer from anyone, as the deer don’t belong to individuals. And to all that are so concerned with selling the deer’s antlers, is that even illegal in Ohio?

Poach that off my ranch and I will want him to get prison time, a huge fine and lifetime hunting privileges revoked.

Well, hunting participation percentage wise and numbers wise is most instances is falling annually. I know more than one person including myself that have been a part of illegal hunting and fishing activities, especially as teenagers and younger adults. But it is possible for them to grow up/mature and be conservationist, get youth involved, and overall better and grow the outdoors. If these people are habitually caught, punished, and continue on, then yes taking privileges is probably necessary. If we live in a world where repeat dwi offenders(or any other major traffic crimes) can continue to have a license, then it doesn’t sound fitting to take hunting privileges over shooting a deer. Would this be an issue if said deer was a forked 4 point? No, they’d get their slap on the wrist, and we wouldn’t have anything to talk about.

How did he only get $20k for it? It’s worth way more than that.

The right to hunt is owned by the landowner. The value of that right is tied directly to the value of what is there to hunt. So yes he stole what belonged to the land owner. He also devalued what the landowner owns. He also stole the animal from the state. Triple damaged is not out of line for theft. If the criminal can not pay the fine at the time it is levied then he should do jail time. I despise and have no compassion for thieves and liars.

Agreed. And slaps on the wrist are not going to deter serial poachers.
