Been waiting for awhile for the wind and weather to get right so I could make a meat haul. Yesterday it all came together so me and Dad set out to work on filling the freezer.

We were going to try Cedar Creek but after seeing the report that Buzz posted with his guide we decided to go somewhere else.

We got to the ramp just after daylight and decided to check out a well known shad spawn area to see if the Shad were there. They were nowhere to be found and neither were the Crappie. We did catch probably 30 Sandbass there and tossed a few in the livewell just in case we couldnt get on a good Crappie bite. After that we moved out deeper to check and see if the Crappie were there. We located HUGE schools of them in open water but really struggled to get any of them to bite. We bounced around a few more spots picking up a few here and there but couldnt really ever get on a good roll.

We tried one spot in about 8' of water and something grabbed my jig and took off. I followed it with the boat for probably 8-10 minutes and was never able to gain an inch on it. I finally gave up on it and just locked up my drag and let him keep my jig. No idea what it was but with 6lb line it was hopeless.

By mid day the east wind had picked up so I told Dad I wanted to go try a shallow spot we found last year. When we got there I told him I was going to Bass fish first and then work back through the area with a Crappie jig. I think I caught 3 or 4 Bass there and then caught the biggest Crappie of the day while Bass fishing. At that point I knew what I needed to do so I picked up my Crappie jig and went to work. I have no idea why there were so many big Crappie in 3' of water in the middle of day but they were.

In all we probably caught 30 Sandbass, 80-100 Crappie, a few Catfish and Drum as well, along with 8-10 Bass. We fell just short of a 2 man limit on the Crappie but the overall size made up for it. We had a ton of fish in the 14"-15" class. One really odd thing I noticed is we did not catch a single White Crappie at all. Every single one was a Black. Thats pretty crazy when you consider we covered a good portion of the lake to come up with what we caught.

Just fried up a few of them for lunch.
