Seeing the other stuck story reminded me of ours. It was pretty epic.

We have really nice gravel crossings in our creeks at the ranch. My son decided to see how far that gravel extends upstream in one of them. Yea, Live and Learn. FWIW, when he did it when the water covered the bottom about 4."

[Linked Image]

I knew better than to do it but I tried to pull him out and got high centered.

[Linked Image]

Got a tractor in to pull me out and my truck was free. My son working to clear dirt so I could open my door.

[Linked Image]

After pulling me out we hooked the tractor up to my sons truck.

[Linked Image]

Going Down............

[Linked Image]

Tried pulling the tractor out with the haul truck but it was a no go. Gave up on it and went back to my sons truck. The truck mounted winch couldn't break the truck free of the suction and he didn't want to bury the truck trying to pull with it.

[Linked Image]

Next idea was to pull from high ground which resulted in some progress but did not free the truck completely.

[Linked Image]

The carnage. He worked and worked trying to self extract with the bucket to no avail.

[Linked Image]

Got a big backhoe in to finish the job...had an extendable boom/bucket. Pulled the truck out with ease.

Free at last.........he had to remove all the wheels to clear the mud and rocks out of the brakes so he could drive it. Promptly sold it and it still drives.

[Linked Image]

Digging the tractor out. Pulled muck from around it and replaced it with dry dirt that he packed down. Then he pulled it out.

I've had plenty of vehicles stuck bad (with several requiring tractors, skid steers, and backhoes to get out), but nothing like this. Great pictures and story.

Mine wasn't nearly so egregious, but I still had to walk to the house and get the tractor.

Years ago my brother-in-law, who was about 14 at the time, got his dirt bike stuck in a little playa lake out in the panhandle. He went to a nearby farm, where the hands were drinking and sitting around (it was Sunday). Eventually they got his bike out, but not before getting three tractors stuck. The farmer was really ticked off.

Under the circumstances I think you did fine. But I am surprised you got the tractor that close. You were either way overconfident in the setup or you didint have a longer chain.
Thanks for posting, and your photographer was great.

That’s a bad stuck. IMO the things that get stuck the worst are tractors and skidloaders. When you bury one it’s real tough to get out.

This is about as bad as I’ve ever gotten stuck

There was a busted waterline that you could not see under the grass and I promptly sank up to the axles. Was on the back end of a remote ranch, fortunately I was able to get ahold of a neighboring ranch Forman who had a 110 hp 4 wheel drive Kubota.

Of course he shows up on a 2wd Toyota tundra. He did get me out with a couple of suicide jerks.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I got a dozer stuck. Took a helluva lot bigger dozer and big chain to get it out.

I have gotten two tractors stuck. One was a minor stuck and easy pull out, might have been able to get out, did not want to risk burying it.

Second one was a mind boggling thing! Had some fairly heavy rains about a week or more before, walked the whole 3 acre plot poking the ground with a long piece of rebar to check the grounds firmness or lack there of..
East side of the food plot is the lower ground where it was still to wet to mow.

So I do my outer boundary mowing loop first, make a couple of pass's around and all of the sudden the tractor just literally dropped like I hit quick sand.
Crazy part was I had walked that area and mowed above and below it.

What did it cost to get all of the vehicles out of the creek?
Adios,

Yea, that definitely qualifies as epic!

I saw a guy bury an older D9 Cat when we were building an earth dam for a tank. He had it buried so deep you couldn't see the tracks and water was flowing over the floorboards. It took two other Cat's to get him out.
