With all the dog shooters on here, the comments in this thread surprise me. Nothing to take back. If you have to hide what you did, it may not have been the right thing. Biting people or killing farm animals both warrant putting a dog down. Protecting the neighbors and farm animals from a bad dog was the right thing to do. Doing the right thing is not always pretty. Having the guts to do the right thing when it’s not pretty is a testament to character.

Any of us that grew up on a farm or rural area with farms, knows that this story is a non-issue and nothing that is out of the ordinary. The only difference between what happens in the country vs. the city is who puts the dog down.

Had a friend that owned a dairy. Any dog that chased a cow got one warning.

Growing up, my neighborhood had a feral cat problem. We didn’t talk about it, just handled it.

Sounds like the dog had a lack of proper training, and the need for containment. Some take more time to mature.
Not questioning the action of the owner, but I would have left that out of the book.

Take it to a shelter where they will "peacefully" put it to sleep.

I have zero issue with what she did related to the dog. Putting the details about it in a book, will lock up the brakes on her political career for a national level office though.

Dogs get the death penalty for killing farm animals in rural America. It's not new.

Somes who are not productive and not worth feeding have "issues" with this ubject.

I was on a bird hunt with a guide years ago and he had a dog that couldn't perform. Same fate for him that day.

Most of the time when a dog goes off the rails, it is because it was never trained or shown any boundaries. Sorry, but I believe most dog problems originated with the owner.
