The agony of defeat... He was caught, for 5+ hours. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/04/full-40213-417946-boarsouth.jpg) I was so confident in my corral, that I didn't rush this morning, leisurely enjoying my coffee and breakfast. I loaded up Bebe the Wonder Dog and off we went. I'd received a last pic that the feeder, that of course I'd built out of scrounged parts and was leaning much like the Tower of Pisa, had finally cratered. I assumed he'd bumped it out of frustration. No biggy. He'd still be there. Maybe it fell on him! I crept up with a rifle, in case his spotted buddy was hanging around. Confidence descended into disgust as I surveyed the scene of the crime. Apparently, the crash had inspired him to be more creative and he hit my lower deer jump panel. (I worry too dam much about the deer.) It gave and he exited stage left. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/04/full-40213-417948-aftermath.jpg) He gets to live another day, all the more educated, and I get to learn, for the umpteenth time, that anything is possible with even a medium-size boar. No more "deer jump panels", I have to finally assemble and figure out my new cellular drop gate, and, I have to haul my gluteus maximus outa bed and drive in the dark when there's a boar in the trap.

Talk about a ticked off hog giving you the proverbial finger.
I hope you didn't have your contact information written on the trap. A hog like that might show up at your house.

The busting boar's spotted friend is in the patched trap. We'll see if there's...Blood at Dawn. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/04/full-40213-418092-img_20240412_060535.jpg)

That Boar really wrecked your set up.
As you well know....ALL panels need to be at least 5' high or they will jump out. YES....many hogs can jump 4 feet!
But there is little to prevent them from 'climbing' out if they really want to....except to place an inward pointing barrier at the top.
Your panels look plenty high (and strong) save for the 'Deer Escape' portion which is not necessary. Deer can easily clear 5' or better.
Any panel that is lower than the rest will be viewed as a potential escape route for pigs and they will be inclined to 'test' it.
Glad you got the spotted hog. Don't expect the escaped boar to be trapped again.

Thanks flintknapper! Yeah, the only way he'll be shot is if he makes a mistake at a non-trap feeder when a deer hunter's in a blind. I've shot a couple of bonafide bruisers that way.

YES....many hogs can jump 4 feet! Absolutely true. I have a video somewhere of a hog I shot clearing a 4' fence and getting into an area I could not follow. Completely took me by surprise that he didn't try going through the fence, but leapt right over it.
