we went shed hunting this weekend and the cactus across the ranch was amazing - Nice!

'First year on a lease south of Sheffield years ago I went out there in July (  ), after some timely rains. Every variety of cactus, and there were a lot, was blooming. The Chihuahuan desert is amazing in certain, specific situations.

We went down (Webb co.) this weekend also and even though the cactuses are blooming the prickly pear pads are already pretty thin and the habitat overall is VERY dry. There was a few mesquite blooms but none of the good brush was blooming nor was there any forbs or green ground cover of any kind.
The stock tanks are very low and won't hold out long unless we get some rain soon. It's a pretty bleak looking spring so far and unless something changes it likely will be another poor fawn crop at our ranch.
We found a few sheds but none from the deer we were hoping to find but did eliminate two big rattlesnakes.
