I've used 125 BT but I load out to 2.325" with them. They have worked well on bear and deer so far.
That said, if you hit them right (broadside somewhat back behind the shoulder - a little further back than with a deer) they die pretty easily.

Most bullets that expand fairly easily and reliably will do the job well, but I'd bet the 115 and 110 TCC would work really well from what I've seen.

Recently got a HAMR built and broke it in this weekend on a few hogs (joined this forum specifically for this thread). I am having issues with my RCBS dies now that I am trying to resize my fired brass. The dies are creating a taper on the case neck almost like a early bottleneck. I resized my new brass before loading the first go round and did not have this issue. The neck OD increases from .325" to .334" prior to the shoulder, where on factory new brass it maintains .325". It does pass the cartridge guage. No other set of dies that I own have had this issue. Any help would be appreciated. [Linked Image]

Yes, it's a fusion based bullet that WC co-developed with speer for the hammer.

If you have the die set properly to full length resize my guess is that you got a set of defective dies. I've never seen this issue with any brand/caliber of dies.

If you had no problem resizing new brass, but are having problems with fired brass, it sounds like you changed your die set-up. Is it possible that your expander ball is too high in the die? Have you tried removing the expander ball completely and seeing what happens? Are you able bottom the die out on the shellholder?

I got it figured out. The only change I made was the hornady lock and load bushing. When I set it up for a cam over I used a different bushing than when resizing the fired brass. I discovered the bushing I switched to has wore out locking lugs and is pushing up with the brass. Switching the bushing solved the issue. It has since been thrown out and the others numbered and annotated in my load data book. Thanks for the replies.

I own two 300 ham'r Wilson's.

I recently bought my first suppressor, Omega 36M from SilencerCo.

When I put thr can on a .22, it works great.

When I put it on the two 300s, the point of impact is shifted hugely, like over two feet at a hundred yards.

Is this normal or is there something wrong with my can?

Thank you.

POI shift is common with suppressors, some more than others. Unless you're getting baffle strikes, it's just the nature of the beast.

Yes, not abnormal. My experience is they ask shift some and every barrel is different with how much it’ll shift.

Are your groups similar? This seems like an excessive amount of POI shift, depending on caliber we normally see a 2" - 6" shift with our Quell suppressors. Typically more recoil = more shift and the heavier the suppresser the more the shift. Basically the suppressor reduces the muzzle rise so the guns shoot lower.

I'm with Bill on this one. Usual POI shift still has you on the same paper, and not two feet difference at 100 yards. Did the POI shift that much on both rifles? Did you get a grouping of shots at same POI impact or were the shots spread out? Are you certain that your suppressor was mounted was tight on each rifle? Did the holes on target appear out of round or elongated (keyhole) or even baffle strikes.

Might be a shot placement issue (-:

I've run into this twice. The first time was with a "take apart" rimfire suppressor that I assembled wrong and the bullet was hitting the exit hole on the way out. The second was with a rifle that the threaded barrel was cut wrong with the face of the threaded part not being square with the barrel all the way around so when I screwed on a suppressor it was basically crooked and again the bullet was hitting the exit hole on the way out. I can't imagine a Ham'r barrel with bad threads let alone two so I suspect something else is going on.

In both cases the point of impact changed about 6 inches at 25 yards and both were easy to correct once I figured out what was going on.

Are you using some sort of adapter such as a flash suppressor or muzzle break that the suppressor screws onto? If so that's the first place I would look.

Put a Kaw Valley linear comp on my carbine to reduce the hot smoke cloud that obscures follow-on shots.

DJones - might be time to get a laser or small light on your rifle for the close work! If you can center the pig in the light then start squeezing from the hip!!! smile

While out one night I brought an SBR with a 300 lumen pistol light. As I was standing outside the blind staring at the stars, I accidentally bumped the light on. This caught me off guard and as I looked to the spot 10'-15' away where the light was hitting the grass. To my surprise a 35-40 lbs black haired piglet burst into the light beam at a fully stretched out sprint for its life. The strobe light made everything look like slow motion picture frames. With its hair beaded with rain drops, the pulsating lights made it look like a "Disco Pig"!!! I squeezed off a a few quick shots while trying to bring up my sight before it crossed the trail and disappeared into East Texas thicket. After the excitement died down, I realized that I just needed to keep the pig centered in the light beam and it probably would have been a hit. There are things you only see at night...

Smoky P,
i have a 300 blkout pistol for drive by shootings. i can hold it with one hand out the window while i steer. i too discovered the formula of the flashlight; if i could see them in the light, at least one of the 30 rounds was bound to hit something. i used to use a shotgun but it required both hands, and i had to steer with my knees; very difficult in plowed fields.

the pig wasn't THAT close. at the beginning of the vid you can see 140 yards in the rangefinder (upper right corner). not to mention i was shooting from the truck, out the window. first shot hit, but... well... stuff happens. one of the follow-up shots hit too; don't remember which one, but i heard it. when i ran out of window room, i moved to the other side of the mirror but was tilting too badly to shoot accurately. i opened the door and jumped out but found myself fending off a direct attack! fortunately my training in survival techniques and unmatched rifle proficiency combined with excellent physical strength, nerve and stamina saved my life.

Bill Dubbya,
i'm shooting a ham'r. shot placement doesn't matter whip

I knew something weird was going on. I've never seen you miss that many times on 10 hogs, let alone one.
