Lot of lucky folks that passed over just as the ship was bearing down on that pillar. I was up at 3:30 this morning watching as it was first reported.
Lots of unlucky folks, too. Still 6 people missing (construction workers on the bridge), probably dead since they haven't been found yet. This from the NY Times: A mayday call enabled officials to stop traffic at both ends of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge and try to evacuate people from the span before it collapsed on Tuesday, according to several federal and Maryland officials.

And now one of the busiest ports in the U.S. is out of action. The price of certain cars and trucks could change, at least until changes and/or upgrades at other ports can be made to load or offload them. It could result in a significant increase in port traffic across the Texas coast.

Reports indicate the crew broadcast a Mayday and warned they could potentially impact the bridge. They are saying vehicles coming onto the bridge were being stopped in both directions.

Perhaps the incident could result in a significant increase in port traffic across the Texas coast. You'd think that after they find the deceased, they could clean that away fairly quickly to at least reopen the port.

It'll take a month or two for them to clean it up enough to have vessels going through it again. There will be a huge surge of shipments out of Port of Norfolk and Port Newark-Elizabeth. There shouldn't be an impact on the Texas coast, mainly just the east coast terminals. It's been a rough one today.

Oranges and apples comparison, 0 fatalities in that derailment and appearedly multiple in this shipping calamity. OSHA responded fairly expediently to OH, however their actions/decisions were lacking in nature and execution.

That port has the deepest water of any in the USA if it’s the one I’m thinking of. It gets the largest container ships so this might actually cause issues here for certain things.

One only left primarily non health related economic issues while the other had a lttle clean up requirement as the result of a hazardous health condition.

Similar to the incident at Webber’s Falls in 2002 where a barge struck the I40 bridge. Had some buddies fishing a tournament nearby that helped pull people out of the water. 14 dead and 11 injured. The collapse happened near the crest of the bride, and some people did not see it until they drove off. It amazes me that a bridge can be taken down so easily. I’m sure our enemies are taking notes.

It will just be some delays in the port schedules and vessel rotations. Port of Baltimore is only 50ft deep so the larger vessels will be fine. Norfolk and Newark should be able to handle the excess volume until they can get the bridge taken out. Once the bridge is out and the vessel is docked, they should reopen the port. Expect prices to go up, because all the chassis services and other vessels will look at this as a revenue opportunity.

Construction for the 1.6-mile-long Francis Scott Key Bridge began in 1972 and It officially opened to traffic on March 23, 1977

Just listened to (watched) a podcast by a demolition expert. He says the bridge was absolutely blown by thermite in his expert opinion. Showed in slow motion each charge that blew and that they were strategically placed to break the steel instead of the steel bending and folding. The plot thickens. Seems nothing is an accident these days.

It amazes me that a bridge can be taken down so easily. I’m sure our enemies are taking notes. So easily??? That ship was almost 1000 feet long and weighed 116,000 tons...that's 232 million pounds.
