I bought one specifically for shooting spiders off the tractor, much safer than a 22, and it makes me smile watching them explode. clap

Also works pretty well for shooting rats & mice off the tractor while shredding, just can't be very far at all or you have to shoot them several times. It's not cheap entertainment, but it's entertainment.

To the OP.......anything Tikka. bolt

Spiders, snakes and rats off the tractor with one is fun. I have killed a few hogs, snakes and one coyote with my Judge. The Federal buckshot loads pattern quite well from it and I would not want to be hit by 4 or 5 pieces of 000 buckshot. From my Judge those pattern about 4 to 5 inches at 10 yards.

The answers are amusing.

The few that came to mind before I read any of the other answers were Ruger #1, Mini-14 and the older semi automatic Remington's. Mine was all based upon accuracy experience.

Shocked JG said R700...damn near every custom action we have was built off that design, both footprint and function.

After reading the replies I'll add...any bolt action rifle that has double ejectors...dumb idea.

Winchester M70 black shadow, the worst thing about them is the crap plastic stock.

I do like my 788s and the ones I no longer have accuracy was not an issue at least after free floating the barrel and/or that and bedding the action.

Judge is a decent snake gun. My 40sw doesn't like snake shot.

The MSS is just the military variant of the model 700. I figure folks who kill people at long range for a living, know a little bit about it. I think it was the standard for them for about 40 years.

Heck yeh lol....Years ago I had East make me a custom retention leg holster for my Judge. Walking around it stays on the right side of my right leg, but when I sit on the tractor seat I spin it up so that it's on top of my right leg, and I can draw and fire pretty dang quick that way. I've got 3 or 4 of those little fold up Velcro ammo holders on my belt that hold I think fifteen 4-10 shells in each one. The whole rig looks like something my youngest boy should have for his Nerf Gun wars, kinda goofy looking, but man it's a fun tractor shooting rig. Load me up a cooler of beer and enjoy the day. roflmao

.357 with rat shot, .44 with rat shot, .45 with rat shot, etc. With these, at least when you put a regular bullet in, there isn't a huge jump to the rifling.

I like my 788 too. I just think that their reputation exceeds their capability.

I was most disappointed in the Marlin 30-30 I just had to have. I found a Remington 600 in .308 was much better suited for my application. I wasn't disappointed in the profit I made when I got rid of it. They're great, or they wouldn't demand the $ they do, just not for me.

I'll defend him...I agree because this thread is for overrated. My perspective on guns was always from an "adult's" perspective. Not that opinions are more grown up and some hoe more correct. Adult in the sense that I had almost no opinion on guns and/or shooting growing as in immigrant's kid. I got into it as an adult around the early 2000's. So I heard LOTS of opinions, including many on the 700 and how amazballs it is. Especially if it were in 270, "flattest shooter ever!" Geez! So yea I 100% the Remington 700 is overrated. An agruement for it is the fact that there are hardly any identical clones but alot similar with imporvement mades; ejector, side bolt release, 60deg bolt throw, etc.

Honestly, just arguing for the sake of it. I think, and have thought since I started shooting in 2002, the 40cal is the MOST overrated thing in guns. The comment about 45 being Thor's hammer. Well what if you could get that same hammer AND put more than 7/8 rds in the pistol? Then you get the almighty 40cal. most overrrated caliber ever. hahahahaha.

On this forum, the most over rated cartridge by far is 7mm-08. .308 winchester is a better hunter with more power inside 300 yards and way more efficient in a carbine, and easy to find ammo. 6.5 creedmoor beats it as a long range target cartridge, again ammo easy to get. Hand loads in either are better for their purposes if you want to go there.

But if you plan to handload anyway, why not 7-08 ai?

I said what i said.

The most overrated gun here, although it is a nice rifle, is probably a Tikka bolt

Kimber pistols. Christensen is bad, but quite a few people know that. I’m amazed at how many people think Kimber still makes a quality pistol.

Mean time between failures of the gi issue M4 is 186 rounds. M16s have a slightly higher number. I doubt there is one for an HK G3 or AK47.

What is your source on the stats? I have watched 10's of thousands of rounds fired in a single day from over 200 M16A2 without a single failure, on multiple occasions.

Published data from Crane after they tweaked the rifles for enhanced reliability. Colt came up with similar numbers.

Rifle-Ruger M77. The angled front action screw is stupid and the middle action screw in front of the trigger guard is too fiddley.
Handgun-Glock. The stupid Glock grip angle that is different from everything else.. A trigger so bad that the reliability Glock is so famous for is often compromised for a weaker trigger spring to try to make the trigger tolerable. Terrible sights.

Dang, ouch!
Instead of the overrrated 700, as stated above, I ended up getting a for my first rifle a Ruger m77 in 300 win mag. I gave that to my brother because i was not man enough for a 300wm in a hunting rifle. The first handgun i purchased from a store was a Glock 19 and still love the thing.
hahahaha got me!

I ran over 5,000 rounds without a hickup through my gov issued M4 over a period of less than two weeks, in field conditions. The only maintenance i did was wipe off the BCG once a day with a dirty, oily rag and put a few drops of CLP on there.

Always stripped them completely of all dirt, carbon, and debris before turn in.

Also a lot of your a m4 malfunctions occur in the prone unsupported position with fingers dangling in front of the ejection port. Deflects spent brass back into the ejection port. Wrap your fingers around the mag well.

My first left hand bolt gun was a M77 270. I still own it. It is completely reliable. Consistency to my accuracy standard is a challenge.
I love shooting handguns. Glock 19 is the only one I ever traded away. I could overcome the gritty Glock trigger but not the stupid grip angle or the square grip. Never could shoot the thing as well as my other handguns. That grip angle is why those that learn on a Glock very seldom shoot other pistols as well and visa versa.

Sure sounds like you're misquoting wikipedia.

"In a 2002 assessment, the USMC found that the M4 malfunctioned three times more often than the M16A4 (the M4 failed 186 times for 69,000 rounds fired, while the M16A4 failed 61 times).[90] Thereafter, the Army and Colt worked to make modifications to the M4s and M16A4s to address the problems found.[90] In tests conducted in 2005 and 2006 the Army found that on average, the new M4s and M16s fired approximately 5,000 rounds between stoppages."

It’s good for more than 5k rounds lemme tell ya. And i ran a SCAR at one point… I will take an M4 over a SCAR any day.

The last thing you are thinking about in a tic, is will my reciprocating charging handle whack whatever I am trying to use to hold it steady.

You Sir amaze me, no matter the name.

You should list all your aliases like before so people can keep up.
