I know this thread has probably been done before, but I didn't find one when I searched, so I'm guessing it hasn't been done in a while. So, here's the question. What firearm do you feel is the most overrated firearm out there?
I'll go first. The first one that comes to mind is the Taurus Judge. Shotgun round out of a rifled pistol barrel is useless as tits on a boar hog. Shot spreads too quickly and is inefficient for a self defense round. .45 I would say would be a good defensive round, but in a Judge, the extra long cylinder required for the .410 shell is going to leave a lot of bullet jump before the throat, and that can't be good. You'd be better off with a .45 colt revolver in a Double action revolver (or a plethora of other choices)
2nd is a Remington 788. They have a reputation for being very accurate, and that reputation has been elevated above the gun's real accuracy IMO. Yes, they are very accurate for what they were (a budget rifle from the 70's and 80's), but Not amazing accuracy. Most of today's budget rifles are very accurate too. Don't get me wrong, I own, Love, and use my 788. And it is accurate. I just think the reputation has exceeded the rifle.

1911. Great gun but a 45acp isn't Mjölnir and at the end of the day it is still weaker than almost every centerfire rifle cartridge.

Remington 700
Any cartridge with Weatherby in the name. (<<that just caused a butt hurt report)
I fixed a Rem 788 owned by a buddy last year. The action was walking around in the stock 1/32", which might as well be a mile in this world. Pillars, bed, free float corrected the rifle problems. It was shooting 6" at 100 yards. After load development, I got it to about 1 1/4" at 200 yards. He handed it to a 16 year old boy this last week and killed two hogs. One at 225, the other at 245 yards.

Compared to a Winchester model 70 a 700 is a crude piece of garbage and I tell myself that every time I work the bolt on a model 70 and then do the same thing with a model 700. There's no comparison. Unfortunately or fortunately I keep spending a fortune on 700s simply because they are easier to work on and good enough gets the job done.

I don't know, probably a Glock. They're damn good guns and when they came out it was nice that they were reliable out of the box as a lot of guns were not, but time has passed and there's a ton of guns that work great right out of the box that have more features and a better trigger etc then a Glock.
Maybe a sig 320 as well. Biggest turds out of the box today, but the military adopted them so people think they're great. Military should have adopted Glocks. I know that sounds a little contradictory since I said a Glock was overrated, but they do tend to work, not blow up, etc
One other thing that's overrated in the gun world is modularity. It's nice to be able to set something up how you want, but then after that most people leave it alone till they die. Might as well just have a couple of different models of guns and buy the one that's best for you and not make compromises
Also I'll give another vote for Taurus judge, I don't understand why anybody has bought one of them ever. But a sucker is born every minute 🤣🤣

Any direct impingement operated firearm. I have to ask why on that one? ARS are very reliable and very accurate. Maybe the most accurate Auto loaders there are, so why do you think they're overrated? Obviously you're entitled to your opinion, I'm just looking for the reasons behind it

I've seen ak's jam, of course I've seen ARS jam as well but overall I believe from personal experience and witnessing lots of people shoot lots of ARS that they're reliability issues are greatly over stated. That said, an AK and a G3 are probably going to be somewhere between 3:00 and 6 inch guns and a halfway decent AR is going to shoot under an inch and a half pretty easily, sometimes way under

Obviously you're entitled to your opinion, I'm just looking for the reasons behind it Take a hundred of them, screw silencers on them and see how many of the hundred are "very reliable". Many will be without any work on them, but some will not. I only have firearms that function 100% in any configuration. It's a trust issue of mine from my career.

I agree 100% that they are not the best host for silencers. In fact when suppressed I have seen them choke A LOT. However, unsuppressed they are pretty dang reliable. Maybe it's because I don't shoot anything suppressed that I have a different Outlook LOL

Also I'll give another vote for Taurus judge, I don't understand why anybody has bought one of them ever. But a sucker is born every minute 🤣🤣 I bought one specifically for shooting spiders off the tractor, much safer than a 22, and it makes me smile watching them explode. Also works pretty well for shooting rats & mice off the tractor while shredding, just can't be very far at all or you have to shoot them several times. It's not cheap entertainment, but it's entertainment. To the OP.......anything Tikka.

When I don't have a judge with me on the land, my carry is a Colt 1911. Comparing pistols to centerfire rifle power is apples and oranges. I can't carry a 243 on my hip....nor would I want to, to be honest.
