We're on a new place near San Angelo and trying to attract turkey. We have some new feeders on the way (planning on filling with Milo at the moment unless anyone has anything else they recommend) and plan to put them near water.
Is there a perennial that can be (preferably) broadcast that will bear plants near the water to attract turkey? Also, when to plant, etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated....Thanks in advance!

Do you have roosts? Or taller trees they can roost in?
We're trying to do the same, the creek going through the ranch is called Turkey Creek for heavens sake.
I had the people from quail forever come over and they advised me to clear more corridors and replant native grasses and forbs. They said the brush is too thick for them the way it is.
Were in the middle of that right now, itll be a multi year project.

Turkeys you want mix of open and woods. I have had turkeys mow down all the clover and brassicas in food plots planted for deer. Chufa nuts is another that they love but if there are hogs around they will clean them up they are also pretty good eating for us.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

To my knowledge, we don't have any roosts; keep in mind this is the first year we've hunted the place. My brother and I are going down again in mid April to plan, explore, etc. to devise a game plan. Not to mention we need rancher approval for whatever we propose. As they say, it's a process. But the land looks like it's got great potential. It's a concept I call "fun."

Yes, I've seen the chufa nuts mentioned and I've been told we have hogs (haven't seen any yet). We're still learning....
Thanks for everyone's comments!

I hunt in Concho County just east of San Angelo, near Lowake. Our place is on the Concho River. We're seeing quite a few birds on our cameras this year. Lots of jakes. We run a mix of corn and chicken scratch in our feeders. Good luck!
