Old Red touch Black is a good one to have around. They still make me jump when I first see them.

scarlet kingsnake. They say not to use the rhyme because in certain areas I guess it doesn’t hold true, but I think that’s in countries south of us. Every time I see red on black it’s been a “friend of Jack” and red on yellow is “kill a fellow”. I also think it’s because it’s easy to get it mixed up. That one is non-venomous though.

Even though it is the friendly version, bet it made your rear end pucker for a minute!

I was thinking King, but I was not sure. I do know for a fact that it wasn't a Coral.

Not so much. Coloring is way too bright to be anything really dangerous. Even Coral's are not dangerous unless you try to pick one up. They are not going to strike like a copper headed rattle moccasin. Now if it were of the color that somewhat resembles a copper headed rattle moccasin, I'd have been changing underwear.

How could I tell the difference? I've seen em on my place in Freestone Co. and always thought they were milks.

I always called those king snake but looked it up reading this. https://www.snakesforpets.com/milk-snakes-vs-kingsnakes/

So that and several other links say they belong in the same family so milk snakes are in the family of king snakes.

Same family and I always have a hard time telling them apart. I usually go by range maps. I found a Louisiana milk snake in freestone county
