love seeing them on private ponds, thats cool They were tired from the trip north and napped here all day.

love seeing them on private ponds, thats cool They were tired from the trip north and napped here all day. I tried hunting them in Nebraska, never had a shot at one out of the blind. Never saw one while hunting. Drove back into Hastings Nebraska (in city limits) and there are literally thousands of them on every little pond and field, just chillin'.

I had two pairs that nested for several years on a pond at my place. They would stay year around. Neighbor thought it was a good idea to shoot turtles while they were on the nest one year. They haven't been back since. I could almost feed the young ones out of my hand. Pretty cool except they chit everywhere. That was OK by me as it helped fertilize the pasture.

Beautiful birds. I hunted them a lot growing up in North Dakota.

My dad lived near Nocona on a small lake and always had 2 or 3 pairs that would stick around and raise a hatch. Nice to see them around.
