Many people have asked about the 125gr TNT - Here is results fired into water jugs at 50yds. I couldn't find my file from the 100yd test, but the results look very similar

When the weather quits being crap I'll try to shoot a few more including the Sierra 125gr PH, Speer 125gr TNT and some of the new Lehigh bullets.

What's the difference between the regular Lehighs and the new tipped versions?

To me, that is 0% retained weight since it came completely apart and there is no bullet shank left. It's just fragments.

duffas, we old men need to stick together. I can at least say I'm about back to 100% since my back surgery. I've found that I really need a rifle that can take game out to 200-250 yards. Then I can take all day to walk out to it. grin

Mr. Wilson, thanks for showing the results of your testing. I'm looking forward to the Sierra 125gr PH test since that was my go-to bullet for the 7.62x40WT. The Speer 125gr TNT and the Lehigh bullets tests should be interesting. "When the weather quits being crap " I think we may have a decent day some time in May. violin BUT, your test makes one factor really stand out to me. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end no matter what bullet is being used. .

We now have several

Controlled Chaos: Nose sheds off in 4-6 curled pedals, base doesn't expand
Xtreme Chaos: Nose sheds off in 4 straight pedals, base expands some
Maximum Expansion: Expands with 4 pedals, full weight retention
Tipped Xtreme Chaos: Nose sheds off in 4 straight pedals, base expands some
Tipped Maximum Expansion: Expands with 4 pedals, full weight retention

Bill,
Thanks for testing and posting those results. Do you have any weight retention data on the cup and core bullets? I've come to think shedding weight, at least to some point, helps terminal performance in most cases, like the CC are designed to do.

Also, have you ever tried the 308 version of the Speer Gold Dot? I have some, but not sure how they'd do out of the HAM'R. Maybe somewhere between the 300 BO version and the Speer 2022?

Thanks again for posting the information, very helpful.

Even the 110 tac-tx, the twist in those Wilson Combat 300 HAM’r rifles might be slow enough to keep em together at higher velocity

Just look at the numbers. You got 6.8 SPC power in a more efficient .308 bore, and 16” barrel in a AR that weights less than 6 pounds. That is buhbuhbuhbuh bayud. Factory ammo like150 fps faster or maybe more, than a hot handload for 300 BLK or much faster than factory 300 BLK. This whole time I assumed 300 HAM’r was a marginally better rebadged 300 blackout. Wrong!

Edit- looks like i got my numbers mixed up, 300 HAM’r is even better than that. The numbers tell me it is the perfect AR15 hunting cartridge.

That’s what it’s designed to do!

I'm sure you're right that the Tac-TXs would work well, but they're both too long for the 300 HAM'R in an AR magazine. They're really long, which works fine in the 300BO case length.

I should have known. Surely if it worked there would be a factory load for it. It would have been spectacular. Is that lehigh bullet similar?

I think the maximum expansion would be the closest equivalent to the tacx. Have a look at their videos on it

I'm a huge fan of Gold Dot bullets and was wondering about the other 150gr with the boat tail. Is it too long or something? Would really be great if you could take advantage of the higher BC.

The bullet we load in our factory 150gr Speer Bonded load is the boatail version and it performs very similar, maybe slightly tougher.

I agree. If I am going to be rebuffed, at least do it in video format so I can enjoy it more thoroughly. roflmao

^^^ 'rebuffed' and 'big pig'... lolol.

those hogs ran across the road in from of me and i pulled off to chase them across the field. fortunately i was going with the rows and they had a long way to go. unfortunately, the trijicon i use doesn't have onboard recording, and i didn't have time to go thru the menu to turn on video out.

will another pic do?

Yep :-) I don't use them on deer or larger, but pigs, coyotes, varmints, etc. they drop them with no issues and are very accurate in my uppers also.

You know - it's amazing to me that you can go out and shoot a gazillion of these pigs and they just keep popping up. Like you'll never get rid of them - crazy.

Out of curiosity, they (125 TNT) seem to work really well on hogs, why not use them on deer as well? Seems like if they work well on hogs, they'd do as well or better on deer(?). I've been thinking about trying them on deer and black bear. I have a bunch and like you, they shoot really well for me, too.

Hi, new to the forum and don't live in TX anymore...moved to Montana a long time ago. We are just starting to get these feral hogs up here. Montana sources are telling us that the high reproductivity rate is a huge concern. So far, the state has not authorized a hunt for them, but property owners can shoot them if there is a direct threat of damage...... I suspect that is going to change rapidly and we will be able to hunt them like you folks do down in Texas. I am getting ready, "just in case" and looking at the 300 HAM'R.

Take care down there!
