The first deer rifle I ever purchased (and still have) is a Browning bolt action .270. I have always bought 130 grain bullets, from the major manufactures. I sight in at the range to hit 2" high at 100 yards. I am not an avid target shooter, nor do I reload. The longest shot I have taken on a deer is 237 yards. Most of my shots are in the 90-125 yard range. This has been a great gun and caliber. With the way I use the gun, which is mostly deer hunting, I have not seen any difference the the performance with different bullet designs. Either I hit the deer, or I missed.

Have an older Remington 700 BDL Dm that I bought years ago at Walmart . Have shot many deer and hogs with it . Maybe over 200 pigs . It always did the job even out to 300 yards . I used Remington core loc and Winchester power points. The gun is a 1/2 moa gun. It will shoot almost any 130 gr the same . You will Love the 270.

The 270 is great! It was my first deer rifle shooting 130 gr Corelokts and every animal taken with it was a 1 shot kill. I'd probly still be using it today if it hadn't been stolen.

I think you will be very happy with your new setup.

Have hunted with my Browning..270 since the early 80's, great rifle and caliber for whitetails, hogs and mulies, love the Remington Core Lokt, 130gr.it drops them pdq up
Also dropped some big piggies with that combo.

you will like the .270, but you will not notice anymore "killability" if that is a word than a 30-06----they both kill things

I think you will ultimately like the .270 over the 30-06 (assuming you like the .270 gun itself)

Go buy 3 boxes of shells and see which one your gun likes best

I'm going to have to look into Chad's ammo. I'm currently shooting the Hornady 145gr. eld-x.

As you can tell by my screen name I'm not much of a fan of the .270

DQ, I quit shooting a .270 years ago. i did kill a ton of animals with it. I lost too many deer with mine but it was no fault of the caliber. The bucks i lost i took bad shots on from inexperience and nerves. I think a 30 caliber gun allows for a little more forgiveness but .270 is a fine caliber. i will say that both of my .270's shot the 130 grain core lokt the best.

I own three 270's. One is a truck gun, one with NV and one is a nice cutom deer rifle.
For deer I use the 130 grain Hornaday SST
For pigs and coyotes I use 130 grain core-lok's.
I have owned 270's for many decades and like them a lot.

Love mine. I usually have a Hornady SST loaded for a high confidence shot to the neck, but it blows up inside so you don’t get a blood trail, so I’ve always got a Core Lokt behind it if I need it to bleed. I just don’t like to track/carry through the woods

I'm the complete opposite on the SST's. They've done a great job for me, lots of blood, but I've never had to trail a deer. I've killed 4 bucks with them and they've all dropped where the stood.
