Would you share your recipe for indian fry bread? I remember walking to downtown Pawhuska with my sister as a kid and getting some indian fry bread and a fountain drink. Haven't seen or heard about it in ages!

SpitFire (my lovely bride) found a couple of recipes on line but this one seems to work best…. Had trouble with the link so the recipe is below ….here’s a picture of the site she got it from INGREDIENTS Vegetable oil Flour Baking powder Salt Milk 1. Whisk together the dry ingredients: 2 cups of flour, baking powder, and salt. 2. Mix 1 tablespoon vegetable oil into the flour mixture. 3. Gradually stir in 1 cup of milk. Mix in the other ½ cup flour. Knead this soft dough with your hands. If the mixture is too dry, add milk a little at a time. If the dough is too wet, add flour a little at a time. Do not over knead the dough as this will make it tough. 4. Flour hands and shape dough into a long cylinder. Cut it into 6 equal parts. On a floured surface, shape each of the 6 pieces into a round circle, about 6 inches across. (I found it easiest to use a rolling pin to achieve this.) Use a fork to poke a few holes in each of the disks. 5. Place oil (enough to be 2-3 inches deep) in a large skillet. Heat to medium heat. 6. Gently place one disk at a time into the hot oil. As you deep fry, the disk will start to puff up and rise to the top, use tongs to flip it over. 7. Allow this to cook until the bottom is lightly golden, then flip and allow the other side to become golden brown as well. 8. As each shell is cooked, remove from the oil and set on a plate lined with a paper towel to drain the excess grease. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/01/full-25921-411895-img_5070.png)

The whole meal looks great! Been eating fry bread since I was a kid, it is delicious! Butter and good honey for me or peanut butter and home made black berry jam! This and hot chocolate was always the treat after we got done sledding!

We’ve made the salsa verde from scratch and have modified store bought but the best, quickest, and easiest is as close as your local HEB. First we take a pork ribeye (back strap), cube it up, braze all sides in a hot pan. As the meat is getting browned on each side turn the heat down to simmer and add a couple of jars HEB Central Market “Roasted Tomatillo Salas” and “Hatch Green Chile Salsa Verde”. Simmer until the meat is tender but not falling apart. Fry up some bread and smother with salsa…. ![food food](/forum/images/graemlins/default/1987_food.gif) These are the HEB salsas…. You can add to this base salsa for your own taste with more peppers, tomatillo, onions, cilantro, etc. We pull some of the leaves off the cilantro and add it to the salsa. Then take the knife handle and crush the cilantro stems to break them open. Place them into a steamer basket and place into the salsa/meat while simmering. Once cooked remove basket with the stems. You have the flavor without stems in the salsa…. Like most everything else….it’s always better the second and third day (if it lasts that long) and the flavors are richer. Enjoy!

I had this at an Indian restaurant/truck stop but it was over sweetbread. I’d happily eat either one
