Buying an ATV in Arkansas brand new. Saving some dealer fees, tax, ect. Has anyone ever done this before? What does it take to get the title in Texas?

They most likely will require you to pay the taxes as if you bought it in Texas. Those days of buying out of state to save taxes are over. That was the draw to buying in Oklahoma.

Only way to circumvent the taxes is ag exemption or buy used from private individuals.

Save your drive time and other hassles you’re going to go thru. Just go to your local shop and buy from them. Be a good neighbor.

I do it pretty frequently, to get a Texas tittle you’ll need to pay tax’s otherwise you’re good to go and it’s tax free if the dealership rolls that way.

Just make sure and get the MCO and if you sell it the next owner can get the tittle if they want it.

So true. Now what will you do if you have a problem and the local dealer says he can't help or wont help with that issue? Might be a long drive back to Arkansas!!

Exact same scenario if you buy a truck from a different dealership, they will fix it.

I bought a RZR from Antlers in Oklahoma, they are known for having the best deal and it used to be because it was tax free, now it’s the best deal because they don’t add mark ups like assembly fees and other [censored]. When I bought it in 2021 I paid cash, and about $2200 in taxes to the state of Texas while at the dealership, they had the form ready to go.

I thought out of state taxes ended when we had to start paying taxes for items bought online?

Yes Antlers was gonna have to charge me tax as well before I told them I was ag exempt. But antlers hurts local dealers more than you think and I went to my local dealer and told them I had nothing better to do Saturday morning than to drive to Oklahoma or they could match antlers price and I’d buy there. They called be back 10 minutes later and said deal…got there to sign papers and they were $200 cheaper than antlers and I saved the gas money and my time.

I bought one several years ago in Tennessee, Abernathys I believe it was called. went up on vacation pay cash saved about 3K I do not remember re-registering it in Texas. They sent the title in my name and that’s where it stayed. There’s no registration in Texas on the ATV.

no telling how many used ones I have bought with a bill of sale. if buying new, be sure to get the MCO for proof you own it but I don't think a title is needed in TX.

I tried the same thing, they laughed at me and made some smug comments about paying cash and trying to save a few hundred dollars. It’s was actually a $4,000 difference, but yeah. I still drove to Antlers

I bought from them in 2004, no tax back then. I shopped them in 2021 and they had a tax based on what state I was residing in.

I made mine street legal, when doing so, I had to provide proof that taxes were paid, they didn’t care what state I paid them in just needed the proof and the title to transfer it to Montana

There’s a difference between a title and a registration.

not sure why register it if it’s not a street legal vehicle.

I wouldn't bother registering it. No need to.
