Just establishing their pecking order, figure out which jake will be the boss. Fun to watch a couple old toms having a serious fight though.

The old toms are fun when they are trying to be the leader . I once had a group coming in to the feeder , the main tom leading with the other lower ranking toms following . I rifle shot the leader , he went down , #2 ran up and started to kick his butt . I though that was rude so I shot #2 . He went down and #3 started to kick his butt and would hardly leave when I stepped out to get the two birds .

It is I have done the same thing. Works well if you have a couple hunters out the first shoot the boss bird then the second or even third can often get a good shot on the second or even third bird. Had 2 gobblers come in for a kid during the last youth weekend one year. He got both gobblers the second one had several beards, do not remember how many but 2 10 inch plus beards and a few smaller ones.
