What are yours?? Do you have any when it comes to food or how it`s prepared. One of mine, and I have many is hamburger meat that is browned and left in big chunks. I smash mine into very small pieces during the browning process with a wooden spoon. Another is gristle in hamburger meat, smoked or breakfast sausage or just about any meat at all. I eat very little smoked sausage for this reason, and I grind 100% of our HB meat, primarily with briskets.

Most of my actual pet peeves with game cooking is around how people approach or communicate about game animals.
1) People that think XYZ animal or part of an animal is categorically inedible. Ex) "You can't eat feral hogs, diver ducks, javelina" instead of phrasing it as "I don't know how to cook XYZ animal"
2) Using the term "Gamey" to describe wild game. I've yet to hear people align on what gaminess actually means so at best it's a poor descriptor and in most cases will be received negatively.
3) Just breasting game birds. Yes plucking is time consuming but it is just a normal part of the process of giving the animal you killed its full respect.

I grew up eating berry everything in Oregon(been in Texas 31 years), when I can't find tart blackberry jam that still has seeds in it! We pick berries at a place and make our own...I am with the OP on the gristle and I will add one more along those lines, when a place breads and fries a chicken breast but leaves the tendon and fat on it. Gross

Right on man, right there with you. It is aggravating sometimes to hear people trash talk damn good protein sources that God has given us, because they are either too lazy to clean them/don't know how and don't have anyone to show them, just ignorant of how good that meat can be and repeat what they've been told or heard, or had a bad fork experience from someone who did it wrong.

Cheese on or in everything! Enough already! Last night I had to work late and didn't feel liking cooking. My little girl demands my Mexican Rice every time I pick her up so we made a pot. I took a great big ol' pile of rice and threw it in the microwave, then stirred it and covered with Colby Jack cheese slices and nuked again. Added some Tabasco and mixed it up. It was so good I had 2 plates. I love cheesy rice sometimes. Used to make homemade papas con chorizo in a cast iron skillet and cover it with cheese to melt in. 5 or 6 corn tortillas with some hot sauce, then off to the deer blind. Bring chit paper if you're North of I-10.

What’s y’all’s opinion of carp? Would y’all eat it? I haven’t mainly because I haven’t targeted carp. If I knew how to fillet around all the bones I would give it a shot if I caught one

What’s y’all’s opinion of carp? Would y’all eat it? I would. Camped with some pretty big carp folks, but never got into it. My Grandpa used to gig tarpon and my Grannie would pressure can chunks of tarpon to preserve for later. It was sometimes bony, but not hard to eat. Form fish patties and fry. Put that pattie between some white bread with a squirt of lemon juice and that was a damn good meal.

If I knew how to fillet around all the bones I would give it a shot if I caught one I grew up in Illinois and everyone ate carp there. Every year the fire department would have their annual fish fry and yes, it was carp and it was excellent. My parents knew how to fillet it without us having to eat around the bones. As a kid we used to catch them by hand following huge rains where the lakes would overflow into the creeks.

I don't like "food rules" I say eat what you like. If you like beans in your chili, but beans in your chili, if you like sauce on your bbq put sauce on your bbq and if you like coke with your whiskey put coke in your whiskey. If you do put coke in your whiskey you aren't touching my good stuff though. haha

What’s y’all’s opinion of carp? Would y’all eat it? I've had it home canned. It was good. I've heard it's good meat if you know how to filet them.

Only fish that is truly terrible is Hardhead catfish, I fried one last time we went fishing at coast and it was like rubber.

Mine is more of I don't understands: 1. Putting the exact same seasoning on every thing you eat. 2. Putting absurd amounts of hot sauce on everything, I think your taste buds are blown out. 3. If you have to fry it to make it taste good, it's not that good to begin with. 4. Saying we don't need that in reference to using a lot of butter if the recipe calls for it. That is mainly what my sister says, she wonders why her cooking isn't the best. 5. Baked beans, no matter how you doctor them up they aren't good.
