At one time I had 3 different bunches on my place South of Bowie. I shot all I could to no effect. Then they left for 3 years. They are now back and I’ll start on them again.

I'd buy the too much pressure theory if it wasn't for the fact we are actually putting less pressure on them than back in 2018/2019 and I've talked to numerous land owners in Bowie, Lamar and Red River counties that don't really hunt much but they say the hog population is way down? You may be putting less pressure on them, but in 2018 and 2019, there were a LOT less people with thermal and night vision gear that were out and hunting 5 and 6 years ago. Overall, the pressure on hogs has increased. There are less places for them to go where there isn't somebody with thermal or night vision. Used to be that if you told folks that you hunted with thermal, they were hugely impressed. Nowadays, you tell a landowner that you use thermal and you get something back like, "My nephew has an ATN..." DNS, Yes I'm sure thermal is making an impact, but like I posted on the forum elsewhere I think overall the #s being down is due to other factors too. Super cold winter a few years back Extremely dry summers Helicopter shooting Thermal night hunting The hogs are adapting and getting smarter But what I don't understand is unless it's the acorns why we went from seeing quite a few hogs back in the summer to seeing very few now??? I agree, sir. Something is going on...it's not just a coincidence. When you guys figure out what the cause is let us know so I can apply it to my property. We have no shortage. I saw some in day light just days ago. This population decrease you're experiencing cannot be applied as a blanket statement.

This population decrease you're experiencing cannot be applied as a blanket statement. No one really knows. I've never seen a recent hog census, and there is certainly little correlation with what's going on in the panhandle to another part of Texas like the valley or East Texas. However, the population decrease for a lot, if not most folks here cannot be denied. I went from seeing hogs everyday, to seeing almost none in two years, and I've run corn 24/7 for three years. The change seemed to occur for me right around the big freeze. They are gone (and it's awesome).

The little farm I hunt I've killed close to 100 over 6 years. A year ago a local HOA trapped a huge sounder I was working on, and I had dogs running the habitat too. Last weeks hog was after a 6 month dry spell with nary a hog on camera. There is a sounder around but not regular yet. Beyond that....

In West Texas DJ killed them all so the rest are all scared. Haven't had hardly any on the ranch except roaming boars.

Seeing very few up in north Texas after years of being covered up. It is odd- maybe they started dropping the sterilizing bait who knows?

I have one lone boar that come through every now and then, and I can’t get a shot. Other than that I’ve seen nothing. Used to be that when deer season was over, it was pig season. I’m down to coon corn thieves now.

before the season I would see several. during season, nothing, figured other feeders started up, they had choices. At the end of season, I saw them on camera just after dark. Figure in a few weeks they'll start coming around as most other feeders will be shut off.
Hunt WITH your kids... NOT for them

We are still covered up with hogs at our lease in Bosque County. I have six cellular trail cams out there and I am seeing hogs in any weather condition and anytime of the day between 4:00 PM to 8:00ish AM. Now that deer season is over there is about to be a lot of little piggies that aren't gonna be goin to the market! I just upgraded my thermal to the new Armasight Contractor 640 on my 308 AR. That thing is awesome.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

On my place in Jones County I had a lot of hogs all through deer season and most of January. Lots of big boars, groups of 8-10 150-175 pounder hogs and occasional litter of babies. Now in February out of six feeders with 6 cell cameras only one or two hogs maybe twice a week. Maybe someone near me is trapping or maybe the large ranch adjoining me did a couple of helicopter hunts. Anyway hogs almost nonexistent now.

Oil company staked a well location and started making a cattle guard last week. That may keep the hogs away for a while. Hope they come back soon. I’m ready to hunt.
