I’m going to check out a place in Paintrock this week that I might get on next season. Not sure of the exact location yet. Any of you guys hunt out there? If so what size deer should I expect and what time of year is the rut? Thanks for any info!

There are some good ranches and deer in Concho county. Size of deer depend on the guys you hunt with and your neighbors. Peak is from around the 10th to Thanksgiving. I'm in the field a few days before and a few days after the 15th... No antler restrictions in Concho, except what you put on yourself...

If you find something ask if they have a solar contract in option period. If they do Im not sure current lessees are letting to many 4.5 year olds walk, and with good reason
its a 115-150’s type area with Mature bucks weighting 160-200lb With that said the area had real bad drought 21 and 22 so 2026, 2027 and 2028 will be rough years from a mature buck stand point.
Bottom line, never trust a man whose uncle was eaten by cannibals.-Sen Joni Ernst

Bobo makes a good point. Lots of solar farming in that area. I'd definitely ask about solar lease and longevity of deer hunting. Seems to be good deer density in that area, so it's good for keeping kids entertained with lots of deer showing up on hunts. I'd agree on the 115s to 150s type area. Lots of mid teens to 20s 8's in that area with some solid 30s every once in a while. Here's the deer my son killed this year in that area.

I have a lease off of 1929 just north and west of Paint Rock. Good deer numbers and some decent bucks taken each year in that area.
