It has been over a year since the nearby HOA trapped a large sounder and dogs had been running the farm (and wildlife habitat). The dogs have been gone for a while that I can tell, but there were few deer and hogs over the last year. Most of my 2023 take were lone boars. Even the coyotes have been displaced it seems. I bought myself a late Christmas present in the form of an AGN Taipan monocular. Took it out and had success the first outing.

After setting a while I got up to stretch my legs and scanned first. After taking a few steps from my spot I turned to look again and hoggo had crept in. I eased back to my chair and watched. Hit him with the green light and he bolted into the trees. But now I could see him. After a few rounds of the game he settled by the feeder and some corn I had thrown. Quartering almost directly to me, hit him under the ear/behind the right eye. Blew it out. Sig .308, Sig 4x14 BDX scope, Nitecore light w/ green lens, custom Hornady 168 gr. VMAX loads at 115 yards ( about max throw on the green lens).

Pro Tip: use the monocular with your non-shooting eye (hence the several iterations of cat and mouse with the light). Helps when your are at max light distance with dark objects and dark backdrop. His eye glow helped me target.

Good kill. Are you going to add him to the 2024 tally thread?
